This is not as stupid as it sounds. It is for control of Afghanistan as a strategic oil pipeline territory and as a strategic anti Russia outpost. All else is rubbish. The above answerer is also correct. both align at a point

Well it's not because of 9/11, if that's what you were thinking, although it has been made to seem that way, fact is there is absolutely no evidence to even suggest that the Taliban were responsible, in fact quite the contrary, the evidence suggests otherwise, i.e. 9/11+US=inside job=$$$4US. The so-called '''they admitted to it''' -is false, Osama bin Laden has always denied that he had anything at all to do with 9/11, and there is no evidence to even accuse him, and because of that, and a lack of evidence, the FBI has now removed anything bin Laden-related from their entire page and are no longer looking for him, the CIA have also stopped looking for him because of a lack of evidence, don't carry on living the illusion that they are '''trying to track him down''' -because they are not. The reason why the fact that the FBI and CIA have stopped looking hasn't been made public or released into the mainstream, is because if they did, people would start asking questions, too many questions and it would just open a can of worms, so that's why you don't hear about it. Conduct your own research and you will soon know everything.

Hey I'm liberal minded but the Taliban are fairly backward...what they did with those Buddhist statues was the last straw for me..
I'm no supporter of US/NATO military might but some regimes need to be removed...
Of course the west's motive are wrong but I'll be happy to see the end of the Taliban as will the majority of Afghanis

Not all "the West" is at war. None of the countries of Central or South America are taking part in the war, and they are ALL in the west. None of the countries in Africa are participating nor taking sides in the war, and they are all in the WEST. Of Europe, I believe only France and Spain have a representative part in the war (could well be wrong on this one), but all of Europe is in the West. It isn't "the West" that is at war, but countries that are suffering under American political imperialistic notions, who fear for their own safety if they go contrary to American demands, and who perhaps lack the self-confidence of other countries who have dared to say "no" and face the consequences. America invented an excuse to attack Iraq again, because they want to be seen (they believe they are) the "saviours" of the world, ridding it of "evil" forces (i.e. anything that goes against their capitalistic self-centered interests), and a good oil supply.

Many years ago the Taliban started terrorist training camps in Afghanistan to train Muslim freaks to go to the west and attack its political financial and religious institutions and to impose the Islamic religion on the west

cos the west are running out of oil and theyre gettin worried about it, not that i condone the acts of the taliban or any similar groups but maybe if they weren't sittin on all that rich oil the west wouldn't have taken quite such a keen interest. Well thats why Bush is doing it, Blair is doing it cos his head is so far uo Bus' rear end he can t make decisions for himself.

At first the West encouraged the Taliban in Afghanistan, because they were anti-Russian and anti-communist. We chose to turn a blind eye to their lunatic brand of fundamentalism and their gross brand of human rights violation, particularly towards women.
But these fundamentalists allowed Al Qaeda to organise and train in Afghanistan, so when Al Qaeda carried out the September 11 bombing the US felt it appropriate to invade Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban and prevent Al Qaeda from organising.

Mainly over religion. Every where you look in the world where there are wars, past & present, religion is always in the background - The same as religion is always pleading poverty; yet they`re the richest property & landowners the world over.
