shes acting like shes looking for something? i just switched litter brand... she just stepped in and didn't go to the bathroom, just played around in it, like a kid in a sandbox.

Been there, done that. It's just natural instinct. I can usually hear him all over the house. He makes a huge mess and lots of noise but I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. Don't stress, he's just acclimating himself with the litter.

Cats do not always like the change of new litter. Was there some special reason that you switched?? If so, you should introduce the new litter gradually, a little at a time till she gets used to the new litter, They get used to certain textures, scents etc. I would go back to the old one, as sometimes this is why cats start to not use their litter box.

My cat scratches around his litterbox too. He seems to be playing. He will stand half in it and scratch the box and anything else around it. I have come to accept the fact that although I may find it odd and occasionally irritating, he finds great fun in doing it.

thats normal in some cats.
my cat does the same thing!!! he is soo silly!
just let him/her play, he/she is just getting use to the new litter, try not to change litter brands. the best that worked for me and my little kitty was Fresh Scoop. with the big orange tiger cat on the front, pawing the litter. it smells really good! and absorbs really good too!

She doesn't like the smell. You ever notice what cats do when they bury their poop? They scratch and throw the litter over it. When cats don't like the smell of something, they scratch like they are covering poop. You're asking for trouble...cats don't like change, especially thier litter, and they could start to urinate elsewhere. They like the litter they are used to.

She is playing maybe she likes it better . Now if she is trying to scratch it all out maybe she dosen't like it . But more likley it is new and she is exploring .

She may be getting used to the feel of the new litter.Plus, I think kittens do that out of being playful.
