This is very true, it can include many things like eating disorders, gambling, drug and alcohol addiction and even obsessive cleaning. Self harming is about frame of mind, about how much a certain thing or circumstances affect you and the ways in which you releive that stress, it is done to feel release from the tension, but it doesn't last long, its just a rush and then you do it again, longer and more than the last time.

Thats right. I cut. I heat up a lighter and hold it to my skin. I stick pins as far as I can into myself. Its all a form of self harm because I can't deal with the situations around me. If you self harm you should get help. I am, and I am feeling better :) there is hope! xox

Self-Harm is exactly what it sounds like: that includes burning, bruising, even mental-abuse can be self-harm because it can lead to mental scaring. it's best to leave yourself alone. i know this for a fact- i used to cut. but, after a while of cutting a serious and life-threatening addiction, i haven't cut in over a year. though I am addicted to drugs, i am not hurting myself anymore! =]

No it can be burning, hitting yourself, banging your body off of something, drinking too much, taking drugs and some even class smoking as self harm. I guess everything and anything that can cause any damage to your body no matter how little would be classed as self harm.

You're right. I'm a self-harmer and although I do cut my arms/legs more often than anything else, I also deliberately overdose on paracetamol and have hit my hands/wrists with rocks to break the bones. I have also deliberatley scalded/burned myself as well. A friend of mine, bites her arms and hands until they bleed or bruise.
Self-harm refers to acts that inflict injuries on one's own body, so can therefore encompass anything. Some even equate smoking/drinking too much as self-harm.

Self harm is doing anything at all to your body, inside or out, that will harm it in any way.
So yes, cutting is the obvious form of self harm we all know about.
Alcoholism is self harm too though.
Depriving yourself from food is self harm.
There's many forms.

self-harm includes any means by which you cause damage or harm to your body. cutting is a "popular" one, due to tv series that included it, but you also have people who pull their hair out, who whip themselves, who cause bleeding... if you want to be "technical" about it, drug abuse is self-harm (you are giving your body something that alters it's natural functioning), as is excessive drinking (not only inhibiting functions temporarily but because it can cause or aid the development of series life-threatening deterioriation of the internal organs), smoking is a form of self-harm (willingly filling your lungs or mouth with smoke and fine ash), excessive eating... many forms, shapes and sizes.
