It depends on your style of dress. I think the hair should coordinate with the style of the dress. So go through some magazines, cut them out, and try model/imagine the hairdo's with your dress for the perfect do. If not, updo's usually are the key hair styles for prom.

Do something unconventional with it, or something timeless and elegantly classy.
Extensions are a beautiful way to add/create length, volume, etc. They are however, not very cheap. (good ones)
A classic 'updo' with a few light and soft tendrils freely falling around the face and flowers or flower buds in the hair can be very beautiful.
I always wanted to have a black and red spanish salsa or native mexican dance dress and put my hair back at the base of the neck in a bun with red flowers in and around it!
Different is always eye-catching and fun, and hey, isn't that what prom is all about?

do an updo cause it seems like girls not and day are just straighting it but once the start to dance the throw it up in a ponytail and look like a dork this way your hair is not in your way and look like the bell of the ball

Thats A good questiomany people dont know what to wear their hair to the prom.I think you should get and up do with waves.

Have them twist it up into a french twist.Then put lil' "jewels" in it to look like diamonds,and a few strands left hanging for a "wispy" look.It will be BEAUTIFUL! Have fun :)

Up-do if you have thick hair
but if its thin then curl it
so its just out and in curls
with some nice hair accessories
