Green poo can be caused by a number of different reasons but there is no need to panic! I can be perfectly normal.
A few reasons could be:
* Eating green coloured food such as green leafy vegetables
* Iron supplements or irn rich foods can colour the stool green so it doesnt mean there is necessarily a LACK of iron maybe too much and thats the body's way of expelling any thats not needed
* If the poo has pass through the large intestine too uickly it may be green in colour
* Only breast fed babies have green stools! If your son is on breast milk only then its normal.
I'd probably note your sons eating habits and any changes in his poo other than the colour. If his stools are normal in every way apart from the colour i wouldn't worry about it too much. If it continues for a few days or his stools have changed in other ways than normal...phone your doctor for advice.
If this doesn't put your mind at rest..phone your doctor or health professional for some advice and peace of mind but I'm sure your son will be OK.
Good Luck!
Meconium is NOT green. It is the first poo from a newborn baby which is almost black in colour, thick and like tar with no smell. I doubt very much if your son's green poo is associated with this type of poo. And also, newborn baby poo is green and considered to be normal when breast fed only..not formula fed.

Hiya Sharon
Green poo is usually a sign of a tummy upset. Although, green poo is also normal for a newborn baby. You don't say how old your baby is?
Green poo in newborns is meconium coming away and nothing to worry about, it usually lasts a week or so after birth.
If your son is older then green poo is a sign of a tummy upset. Just keep his fluid intake up and it should flush out of his system on its own.
A lot of mothers report green poo or softer poo when their baby is teething. You might notice red cheeks and a runny nose along with this and he may tug at his ears.
I hope this helps

My daughter's pooh looked a little green when she had an upset tummy. Just make sure he drinks lots of fluids (mainly water). If your really worried that he's not drinking enough then perhaps you should take him to the docs.

Doubtful. Think about what he's eaten over the last two days. Did he have a lot of grapes, grape juice, fruit punch, or anything like that? That can happen.
BMs can be almost any color of the rainbow ranging from yellow to dark brown. Only worry if they're coming out black like tar (he's bleeding somewhere internally), white like mayonnaise (liver problem) or bloody. Green isn't anything bad. If it was blue, I'd ask him if he ate a crayon or magic marker. (I know of a kid who did.)

Green poop is a sign of a very healthy baby. My daughter was sick recently and the Dr gave her an IV to rehydrate her which essentially flushed out everything. Now her poop is green like it's meant to be. If it was any other color, then you should worry about what he's missing from his diet. But he's healthy. Congrats!

What kind of snack foods are you feeding him? Is he eating things with dye? Many snack foods can cause this if they are colored with food dye. We totally limit foods that have color added but the few times my kids get them it totally makes my youngest's pooh weird colors--often a weird green.
Just something to consider.

Okay, it may be nothing, but it could be a mild allergic reaction to something, can be a lactose intolerance. Watch his diet for a while, check if he is 'colicy', if he seems 'not quite right' take a poo sample to the doctors for checking (they have special pots with a little plastic shovel)

Its just baby pooh, its due to his diet of milk, you'll get to see all sorts of interesting colours as he develops and his diet changes. As long as he hasnt got wind and is comfortable he'll be fine.
