I haven't paid for software since 99
Only spyware I've ever gotten came from shaddy websites...not cd/dvd rips. Stay away from the crappy p2p sites and hook up with the dc++ hubs and you'll be alright. I've honestly never come across a cd image with an embedded virus using the dc hubs.
The crack teams aldo do a decent job of getting around the activation and authentication checks as well. I get my adobe cs suite updated regularly as well as all the microsoft software. Same is true with the update patches for connecting to online game serves. It takes an extra 2 minutes to run an activation crack but that's just 2 minutes I won't spend driving to the mall to buy it anyway.
If you want to pay for software I encourage you too. It's true, we do need a market willing to pay for all of this. But do so out of your own conscience....don't let the haters scare ya into it

Well, Microsoft now requires you to authenticate your software before you can get any updates, even critical security updates. So if you have copies of Word, Excel, or Windows that don't come from Microsoft, you can't keep up with security patches.
When you use p2p to download software, you put yourself at risk for downloading viruses and spyware that may be secretly bundled into the software. Also, if you have problems with the software, you won't be able to go to the original manufacturer for support, as you don't have their product legally.
There is plenty of legitimate AND free good software out there so that you don't need to need to illegally download software that is intended for purchase. A lot of it is open source. For example, Open Office is a good alternative to Microsoft Office for many people, and it's free and safe to use (no spyware or viruses). There are even great free antivirus and antispyware programs available. I'd stay away from p2p stuff. Look at download.com for more good free software and reviews.

Many reasons:
a) To support the software developers and team behind the software, so they can afford to continue to create as good software in the future!
b) As p2p downloaded software can be full of spyware.
c) As downloading copyright software from a p2p client is very illegal, and could land you with a fine for using it!

"Why would people write software if no one bought it?"
Well, big corporations like Microsoft and Sysmantec can afford to lose money to piracy as they get massive contracts from Schools, Colleges, Universities and Offices all over the world, it's easy to check if these facilities are pirating their software and so they have to run on the right side of the law - using the genuine versions.
How-ever for the small time programmers, many of whom are doing really innovative things -- see something like, http://www.salling.com/Clicker/, they can't afford to lose their clients to piracy, as this is their income, their money to continue working. It's piracy of programs like this that is really wrong, and can ruin hard-working people.

You are trusting software that someone else has hacked to disable any serial number locks. How will you know if they have not added anything to the original code? You may be getting malware, trojans, viruses, etc. and most software products have "call home" functions for updates and fixes. Where is the incentive for software developers to improve their product? If you want to test a product before committing coin, most companies provide "tester" software that works for free for a set period of time. Unless you are on a Mac or Linux, it should save you a few viruses.

Mainly because hackers modify the programs, to evade the copy protection. A hacked copy of software can mean a world of trouble, usually. Also certain functions of cracked software might be disabled. If you want the real deal, you'll have to buy it.

First it truly is 2007 not 1998 p2p of such techniques are about as lifeless as a frog that receives ran over with information from a sherman tank. you want to flow on as a lot because the present with something human beings and eighter flow with torrents or usenet. if you're making use of broadband you would possibly want to favor to envision such as your isp some provide infinite usenet get precise of entry to and if so you could max your receive speed out each and each and every of the time with it.

More like "why buy software when you can find legal freeware alternatives on the internet". I rarely ever buy software. Whatever you want your computer to do, there is probably a frugal programmer somewhere who wanted something to accomplish the same task.
