My Skittles goes next week. I'm worried...I don't know what to expect because my Bealges were spayed two weeks before I brough them home. Any advice?

The main thing is, does she have to stay at the vet's overnight?

Call and ask. Spay-neuter clinics usually don't keep the cats. Vets may or may not depending on what they consider necessary. Even if you bring your cat in a 7 AM she may not have the surgery before noon and not be completely recovered from anesthesia to go home that night.

It's a good idea if she can stay as she will be in a cage where her movement will be restricted. When you do bring her home I wouldn't let her have the run of the house. Prepare a small space, say in a bathroom, for her to spend the night.

Depends on the vet. Cheaper vets will typically just keep it for the day. Higher end vets usually require an overnight stay. I've never heard of a cat (or dog) having to stay more than one night. The only reason to keep them overnight is in case there is a reaction to the anesthesia or pain meds, or if the wound reopens, etc... all of which you can also watch for at home. Let the cat stay at the vet if you wont' be home with it for the next 24hrs or so... but if you will, it's fine to bring it home and watch it yourself. Watch for bleeding, oozing, vomiting, etc. But again, it will depend on the vet's policy. Good luck.

At the vet I work at people can drop the animal off at night to insure that the animal does not eat anything after 7 or drink after midnight (Surgery is usually done the next morning @ 7am or so) then if everything goes well people can pick them up at around 4 or 5 depending on what time surgery was started.

If it is being done at a humane society, you usually drop the animal off the morning of surgery and pick them up the next morning. If it is going to be done there make sure your cat is upto date on all shots so they do not get sick.

The vet. most likley did a pre-anestheic screening (blood test) that makes sure the cat will do okay with surgery. If they did and didn't say anything bad about it, it just means your cat is perfectly healthy and will be fine. Don't worry about a thing. Vet's have years of school and practice.

she shouldn't. You should be able to drop her off in the morning and pick her up the next day. If your vet is charging you for an overnight stay then find another vet because they are ripping you off. I've had loads of cats and I've never had to leave one in overnight after spaying or castration.

It all depends on the vet. I had one cat in and out the same day 5 years ago. One done last month with a different vet and they made her stay the night.

If I were you I'd call the Vet. It's probably only over night, but each Vet has standard procedures. Also, even the Vet couldn't tell how the cat will recover...every cat if individual.

If everything turns out alright (which most of the time it will, dont worry) could go home the same day. Sometimes they stay over night. It depends on what time of the day it's scheduled for.

my two cats both went in in the morning and came home the same day before the vet closed. one was spaded and one neutered and both treated the same way.
