I'm just curious. I got 4 Thumbs Down (and counting) for stating that, statistically, the more educated someone is, the more likely they are to be an atheist. And that's all I said!

It's a fact people. Giving me Thumbs Down isn't going to change it. So why bother? o_O

(And none of this "Why does it bother you?" nonesense. That's not an answer. It bothers me because some people seem opposed to the truth and that may lies madness.)

Heh. I love all ya'll. Big hugs.

And ten points to Gryffindor, Alex. I hadn't thought of that but that's an awesome point. :p

Pangel, sorry, but the "I wasn't involved in that survey" answer is a cop-out. Statistics don't work that way. Even if they did, that doesn't make my statement ABOUT statistics any less true.

Jewish Girl, that's just messed up. Why would someone report you for that??

Heh. Look at the Thumbs Down I got for asking this. It's layers upon layers. o_O

They don't want to hear facts. So they thumbs down you.

It's the same as sticking their fingers in their ears and going : "LALALALALA!" so they don't have to listen.

In a way it also underlines the point you made about education.

I got a thumbs down for correcting a question about a "pizza chain" accepting pesos when I said it was one restaraunt owned by a legal immigrant in a Mexican neighborhood. (the story is from Dallas where I live and I know the pizza place)

People don't like to hear anything that conflicts with their own world view. When they become that narrow, they lose the ability to distinguish fact from opinion.

BTW, I think that the answer to your original question is that educated people have less fear than uneducated people and can make more choices about what they believe because they have been exposed to more information.

The reason why it seems that "the more educated one is, the more likely they are to be atheist" is because our schools and secondary institutions are bastions of brainwashing for our youth. They are heavily biased toward atheism and the religion of evolution and they try to shove it down everyone's throat. You are ostracized if you dare to disagree with the liberal faculty. Even a child raised in a Christian home has a 75% chance of becoming an atheist by the time they reach college, all because of what they're being taught in school all those years. How can one hour a week at church compete with 5 days of brainwashing that tells them that God doesn't exist?

I don't know. You are going to get a thumbs down by someones impulsive feeling. That is just how it goes. I have noticed that myself. Statistically the more man made educated someone is, I understand the atheism that follows. I mean look here we go again. Man is born in a rebellion against God...this world is against God so why wouldn't there be a MAN MADE EDUCATION that ultimately leads to atheism...I can't wait to go to school in heaven...get me some God made education...till then No problem here...I love Bible school! And I am God educated there hunny...oh YEAHHHH!!!... (lol)

The thumbs down is given because the truth can not be handled.
Most people only want anwser that best suits the pattern and fabric of their lives, the truth really has no place there. the truth is different to every one so to see a real anwser is to face a real truth. And thats the hardest thing you can ever do.

People's fascination for religion and superstition will disappear within a few decades as television and the internet make it easier to get information, and scientists get closer to discovering a final theory of everything, leading thinkers argue today.

Philosopher Daniel Denett believes that within 25 years religion will command little of the awe it seems to instil today. The spread of information through the internet and mobile phones will "gently, irresistibly, undermine the mindsets requisite for religious fanaticism and intolerance".

Biologist Richard Dawkins said that physicists would give religion another problem: a theory of everything that would complete Albert Einstein's dream of unifying the fundamental laws of physics. "This final scientific enlightenment will deal an overdue death blow to religion and other juvenile superstitions."

You get a thumbs up from me but i am only a level 1 lol

Perhaps it's because as typical for an atheist you pulled these "statistics" out of the air with no scientific back-up.

Grab a dictionary and educate yourself on the definition of the word "fact".

Well first it could be that your source was flawed and you may have extrapolated something that wasn't really proven. The other is that there are lots of people that just don't like the truth because it applies to them. So they close their minds to it and just call you names (in this case giving a thumbs down). They are unable to logically debate their position so that's what they do.

Well, I actually gave you a thumbs up on that question, but honestly, you aren't giving truth there, you're simply stating your opinion. They are giving theirs using the thumbs up/down buttons.

Truth is relative to what you believe or accept on that subject. I personally find that atheists are more intelligent (in general) and more educated (in general). The person who asked that question didn't present himself as such, however.

They bother because they can.. they've been given that option and they take advantage of it... it's that simple.

I am an educated person and I happen to know oodles of people who are very knowledgeable and have PhD's who believe in a god. I understand your point of how the more people know the more they rely on knowledge and science instead of a higher diety. but it is not only education it is also your upbringing and personality along with a bunch of other factors. That is why people are giving you thumbs down, because they are educated and they are not atheist, they feel

Romans 2:13—
For not the hearers of the Law are the righteous in the sight of Yahweh, but the doers of the Law are the righteous.
