My husband is currently serving in Iraq. He said that it is unreal how much the media is twisting things around. He has never seen anything like what they are saying is happening.

I will never trust the MSM, no matter who is the person in front of the camera; they all have an agenda.
I have been in Iraq and I know for a fact that war is ugly, but what the MSM doesn't show you is the many good things we are doing on the ground. Sure, video of a blown up Humvee recorded by a bunch of sand rats can sway opinion more than what a reporter from a "reputable" news source can; however, neither group will show the schools being opened, the hospitals being opened, the power grids being enhanced and more people have basic utilities and sewer services; dozens of newspapers are now being printed and Iraqis can see news that come from outside of the country because of the 60 or so independent TV stations opened since the liberation of Iraq; the Iraqis did not have that under Saddam.
But WTF do I know? I'm just a grunt that has actually been there and seen the real deal, not somebody that gets his or her news from youtube.

The problem is that there are no unbiased parties to get information from. The media are in it to make a profit, so naturally they show all the explosions etc.- those things get good ratings.
One the other hand, troops are risking their lives over there, so it is imperitave that they believe in the mission and believe things are going well. If they didn't believe this, there would be mass desertion of the ranks.
So we are stuck with a situation where we can't get good, unbiased info. The best way to get around this is to say the real situation is somewhere between the hell the media portray and the tranquil, A-OK place the troops say it is.

It is truly hard to respect ones answer who has not been there. THe media is not lying or distorting, the problem lies within the viewer at home. The media is only reporting the negative, as they often do. THis trains the viewers mindset into having a negative view on the war. There is no lying, there are simply leaving out all the good.

Yes!
They are not reporting the numbers killed accurately. If we can trust some of the independent news services, they say that the US casuality must be laying on Iraq soil to be counted. If he/she dies in the air or in a hospital - he/she's not counted.

No, the media are telling the truth.
If some men come back from serving in Iraq and are shocked at what they see in the media, this is probably because the real state of affairs in Iraq was kept from them by the army whilst they were there

Suggestion, try watching another news station other than FOX, dear, and then see what the Iraq Veterans are really saying about the situation.

I've never been to Iraq but I'm pretty sure the media isn't lying about the thousands of civilians who have been murdered.
