Oregon has a current minimum wage of $7.80 an hour -- exceed only by their neighbor to the north, Washington at $7.93 an hour. So the boost that the federal government is seeking will still set a "federal minimum" below that of Oregon. Both Oregon and Washington have measures in place that keep their minimum pay levels throughout each state apace with inflation and cost-of-living considerations.
For the cost of a one-bedroom in Hillsboro try apartments.com for a median of the area -- my understanding (and this is rough) is that a "nice" one-bedroom is running around $790.00.
Good luck in the Pacific Northwest. Hope the move isn't too tough.
