Currently my family consiting of Mother, Father, 13 yo son, 4 yo daughter has a 3 yo golden retrevier. Housebroke, smart, well-trained, BORED. When home alone constantly chews on thing that he shouldn't, molding, couch legs, ect.. We love taking care of him and he gets plenty of attention from each family member. We don't mind the cleaning, washing, feeding, walking, playing, ect.
Basically, this means that a dog would be fine in our household, all positive.

I am NOT asking for an opinion on weather we get a dog on not, which we most certainly are around mid-june 2007.

Current Pet:
"Shadow"
90 lb 4 yo Golden Retreiver.
Like all goldies he is extremely friendly and sociable.

what i am asking is what breed we should get. We are looking for a dog between 30-70 lbs. These numbers are loose but no dog over 70 is suitable. Interests have been expressed in Harriers, dachshunds, and Standard Schnousers, Weinmeraner

as of 1/12/06 our size range has changed. a lot. under 15-20 pounds, but smart.. We have began to consider papillions, and we would like a dog above 39 on this list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Intelligence_of_Dogs)

Goldens are simply adorable and smart dogs, and they would get along with almost any breed.. I would personally and highly reccomend a 15' Beagle, that are as well very smart and like to play a lot and for sure they will find a lot to do together (I have a beagle and we have a neighbor that has a Golden, both female, they have known each other since a few years ago and they love to meet and play)
I wish you the best luck in finding your second pet!!!

If you can find a well trained, well socialized pit bull, they're good. They range in weight from 20-110. I can help you find one. They're awesome with kids, despite what people say. They were bred to be dog aggressive, not people aggressive. They have high pain tolerance, which makes them good for the 4 year old, and they like to play fetch and need a lot of exercise, good for the 13 year old. Also, if you can find one raised with other dogs, that would make it wonderful for your retriever.

Has he ever been crated? I would be more worried about his safety (I mean, what if he chews an electrical cord or something) than getting another dog to entertain him. Sometimes if you add another dog to the mix they will both get into the same trouble, what one sees the other one doing it may do the same. I would get them (when you get another) a couple of good wire crates (so they can still see what is going on) and a couple of nice big chew toys for them while you are gone.

Standard Schnozers are really cool. I like the mini ones best but i woult one of them... are german shepards under 70. becasue they live long and they are great gaurders and they love to play with kids and other dogs. I have had 2 before................ if you get a dog and it's not potty trained e-mail me and i'll give you a step-by-step paragraph on how to do this..... kelbyleann17@yahoo.com

I have a terrier mix...lots of spunk and a lab/pointer mix. They are the best of friends and they bring out good things in each other. I advise a medium energy dog. Fox Terrier, Jack Russel...or a good ole' mix.

Don't get a dachshund unless you've had one previously and know what you're doing! They are extremely bright but stubborn, stubborn, stubborn! Did I mention stubborn?? They are awesome dogs and are not afraid to take on any size animal. It could easily intimidate your Golden though.

I'd go for a terrier. They're great with kids and don't chew alot. If not a terrier then get a lab. They're both very loyal!!!

I suggest a terrier. Most terriers are very smart and within your pound range. Also, great with children.

i would go to a shelter to get a dog but not sure if you should with kids. i got one there two years ago and she is an angel. she isn't crazy or too big. all that the shelter dogs want is some love and when they get it, they will do anything for you . . .

WELL I MY SELF HAVE 3 DOGS I HAVE A 6 YEAR OLD FULL BLOODED BASSET HOUND WHICH SUGGEST FOR YOU. I ALSO HAVE A HALF BASSET AND HALF BEGAL, AND OUT NEWST ADITION IS OUT 9 MONTH OLD HALF WOLF AND LAB. THE REASON I SUGGEST A BASSET HOUND IS BECAUSE CONTRARY TO MOST PEOPLES THOUGHTS THEY ARE NOT LAZY ALL THE TIME. THEY ACTUALY HAVE A LOT OF ENERGY. AND SHE ACTUALY PLAYS WELL WITH OUR BIG DOG.

WELL I WISH YOU LUCK LOOKING FOR THAT RIGHT DOG.
