The only thing credit repair companies (including the law firms) do is dispute the debt reporting with the credit bureaus. You can o this yourself by writing a VERY simple letter saying "I dispute the following:" and including your name, ssn, address, account #s and a brief reason for each. There isn't a trick or secret technique to this, just send the letters.

I have been in the credit repair industry since 2000 and mortgage industry as well. I am a Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS) and a Certified Credit Consultant through Central Michigan University and have taught credit repair for one of the largest unions in the country (UAW).
It always amazes’ me the number of people that give the simple response of "do it yourself" or "why pay someone to do what you can do for free". the truth of the matter is that unless you know what the persons situation is you really cant give any advise.
I pull credit reports everyday and in some cases there is things with the proper advise that a client can handle on there own. In some cases the client would be better of hiring a professional service to handle assisting the client with making corrections and going through the account verification process or determining whether or not the accounts meet the FCRA requirements.
I believe that Lexington Law has a decent reputation, as well as some other's.
Credit Repair coupled with Credit Education is a valuable tool for someone that is trying to get there credit in order.
"But it cost $500.00 or more to do!" WOW, most people don't realize the long term financial benefit from having a 750 credit score especially if they have never had one. Your saving over a lifetime will far exceed the cost of a good credit repair program. I have personally witnessed the benefit my clients have experienced year after year as a result of improving there credit score and getting an education on the credit industry.

Don't bother with those companies. If you're looking for credit repair, you probably already have enough problems.
You can teach yourself about credit pretty easily and start making sense of all your credit woes.
The only real free credit report is ordered from www.annualcreditreport.com
But keep in mind you need to order one from all 3 bureaus separately.
Once you do that, start reading up on credit self help so you'll know how to read the credit report once it shows up. That way you'll actually be able to resolve any issues you have.

You can do that yourself by going to freecreditreport.com and dispute any negative items that aren't correct. You don't need to pay someone else to do that.
The other thing is that negative things on your credit that are verifiable will stay on your credit report for 7 years. As you are making ontime payments, the negative items will begin to diminish only with time.
Sorry.

Try using one of these companies to help improve your credit score. You have to pay, but if you are having trouble it's well worth the money in interest savings. The free ones make you sign up for all kinds of crazy things. You get what you pay for in the end so don't skimp on it. Good luck!
