The Dr. told me that I had a mild bacteria in my stomach. He proscribed me some antibiotics and this pill for nausea but i can't afford it. My stomach pain isn't all that bad. I just have real bad nausea. What can I do? Mind you I have been dealing with nausea for the past 4 months off and on. Help please.

The bacteria in your stomach are most likely H. pilori. This bacteria can cause ulcers which manifest with heartburn and/or nausea. The antibiotics will kill the bacteria and allow your stomach to heal. Without them you will most likely continue to have nausea which could progress into severe heartburn. Your doctor most likely gave you a combination of antibiotics (2-3 different kinds) because this bacteria is very difficult to kill. When it comes to the antibiotics most that are used for the treatment of H. Pilori are not too expensive, in fact I think a few may be on walmart and target's $4.00 list which can be found on their web sites. If the antibiotics are too expensive I would suggest that you call your doctor and ask for a less expensive antibiotic or to see if he/she has samples. Most clinics have a stock room where they keep samples of antibiotics and other drugs given out by drug representatives who come to their clinics. However, if you don't ask for them, or have a doctor who gives them out regularily you will not receive them during your appointment, but most Docs are receptive to giving them out if you let them know that you could use some help. The same goes for the nausea medication. If you can only afford one or the other (nausea med or antibiotics) go for the antibiotics even is nausea is the worst symptom. The antibiotics should improve the nausea in a few days, but if you just take the nausea med, when it runs out you will still have the same problem. Hope this helps.

Ask the pharmacist to help you find Meclizine. That's the generic name for Bonine, and it's available over the counter. When I developed vertigo, and could do nothing but vomit for what seemed like days on end, it's what they gave me...it stopped the nausea within 30 minutes. I think it cost $11 for a bottle of 100 pills.
