Rebuilt tranny 2wks ago today tranny locked up mechanic says motor mounts wore down on front axle and it broke but I just replaced axle 3 months ago could that happen? When i hit bumps it thumps is that cause of motormounts too?

to me somthing just dosn't sound right the 850 tranny can be removed after dropping subframe [and all mounts ] or complete engine /trans removal from top [the faster methoed] after removing all mounts. if the transaxel locked up at speed this could cause the mount[s] to break. i suspect your "mechanic" may be triying to get out of a botched repair job, get a second opinion from somone you can trust before you open your wallet back up.

Find another mechanic. Motor mounts are very critical in a front wheel drive vehicle. The individual who replaced your transmission should have checked those mounts and recommended replacement. He should have explained the consequences of operating the car with worn mounts.

I had a FWD car with a broken motor mount and it actually snapped the c/v joint, i would have the mounts replaced as soon as posible
