Are you thinking of Eric Gill? Early 1900s ..arts and crafts age. He made an artist community in the south of England and then moved it to Wales. for a bit . He was a catholic but very dubious liaisons with relations and children etc . He did the reliefs for the stations of the cross in the Catholic cathedral in London , Westminster Cathedral...not to be confused with Westminster Abbey. He is very famous for his lettering and black and white drawings . He had his own printing press. I hope I have got the right chap ?!?

Far as I can find he is completely unknown. Sorry, but I did look all over the net for like an hour and found nothing.
