They were originally intended to be the world's most vicious pooch. Mexican dog breeders had dreams of a small, ratlike dog that voraciously devoured all in its path. Parents had to lock up their children for fear that they would fall prey to the horror from south of the border. But the few children the the first chihuahua did manage to eat gave it so much strength that eventually children were not enough. The rat-dog, who was lovingly referred to as "Fluffy", moved north of the border to feed on the slower, fatter American children. It moved through Texas like a drought--killing all in its path. Soon, all of the southern states were child-free--innocent victims of the canine's bloodlust. When it was finally brought down, it had killed 3.6 million American children and gotten Kennedy elected to the White House.

Much of the Chihuahua's history is speculation and theory, although everyone agrees on some matters. The Chihuahua is named for the Mexican State that borders Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. It is believed that the breed descended from the Techichi, a small canine that dates back to Mayan times (around the 5th century AD).
