this question is impossible to answer for a multitude of reasons.

a) it depends on your build. some people will NEVER EVER get cut abs, ie: the six-pack, even if they are thin, athletic, and do 1000 sit-ups a day their entire lives. if you are an ectomorph, and you just have a heavy build, it can be IMPOSSIBLE.

b) how fat / athletic are you now? if you're fat, you're going to have to lose a LOT of weight in order for your abs to show through. hell, if you're fat, you might already HAVE a nice six-pack under there.

c) the heavier YOU are, the more weight you're lifting when you do a sit-up.

d) sit-ups are really only good for upper abs. you need to work in leg-lifts or use a full-crunch machine, or SOMETHING else to work your lower abs in order to really get cut.

Situps will tone the muscles just fine, but they'll only show if you don't have 'excess fat' around your middle. The only way to get rid of that is by getting out and doing something aerobic like running, rollerblading, treadmill, et cetera.
