I have always wanted a pet crow or raven, but I know that it's illegal. Is there an alternative bird that I could purchase that I could teach to speak just like a crow and is about that same size and all black like a crow or raven?

Mynah Bird would be an option. I don't know how easy they are to find but here is a link to a site. They are in the starling family. They are black, wild looking birds that can learn to mimic noises.

A mynah bird is like a big raven, and it has an awesome ability to talk and make noises.

Also, there are several crows from other countries that are legal as pets, like African Pied Crows, I believe.

I believe they're legal to keep if they're a type of crow or raven that isn't native.
Ask around in exotic bird stores?

The only wild bird you can legally own in the US is a starling because they are exotics. They can actually talk quite a bit and are extremely intelligent. Go to any field and you will find at least 20 nests.
I don't know of any big black birds that are legal to own....sorry

A Mynah is "crow like". A former neighbor owned one, and it was a very good talker.
