Yes! Unless you want a parasitic takeover of your body or a foul case of worms (possible death), you need to eat SUSHI GRADE fish if it's raw. It's especially cut from the fish and extremely fresh for this purpose.
OMG!! Do not listen to the Tards above me!

Restaurant quality salmon is sourced and handled differently, and usually of a much higher quality, than grocery store meat department salmon. Smoked salmon is processed and much safer, also. If you must eat the salmon uncooked, freeze it for a week before using and thaw it to destroy any parasites - no guarantee on the bacteria with this method, though. If you don't want to cook it, you might try acid-cooking with lemon or lime, which is popular in the islands and in coastal Mexico, with dishes such as ceviche. I still recommend pre-freezing, though. I am a vegetarian, but used to eat fish and my husband still does. For more detailed information, you can contact your local university extention office or county health department for recommendations. Good luck, stay well!

If you want to eat sushi, the fish must be really fresh. The fish sold in the grocery stores in the US are not as fresh as the fish sold in fish market.
Even in Japan, Japanese people don't like to buy salmon for sushi at a grocery store because it's not fresh enough. But they usually buy smoked salmon instead.

Or you could get iodine poisoning or some of the other lovely and sometimes deadly diseases obtained from raw fish!
Raw fish for sushi is carefully selected and processed, even still there is a risk. Wild caught and meat market salmon, needs to be cooked.

You can eat it as an apetizer: ritz crackers, cream cheese, and a little slice of raw salmon... the salmon tastes better smoked though...

I suppose not. People eat steaks semi raw..or roast beef..so salmon should be ok if you prefer it that way. Enjoy*

You should ask the man behind the fish counter. You could probably squirt a little lemon on it and chow down.
