They have highlights for darker hair. My friend has dark brown hair and my hairdresser gave her highlights, but they were auburn tinted and turned out wonderful. You could ask a hairdresser and see what goes with your skin tone. You could do a light brown hightlight.

If your hair is artifically colored black then nothing. Rinses wont work because your hair is too dark to show it. Boxed hair dyes do not remove color, they deposit it.

You probably don't need to bleach your hair as much as you think. If you are making it blonde streaks then there is alot of bleaching but if you are going to make the streaks brown red, blue whatever thaen you only want to leave the bleach on untill your hair is a lighter brown for darker colors or an orange for lighter ones. You need to have pigment in your hair if the new color will stick.

Bleaching is the only way to lighten hair. You may find some product that does not actually say it has bleach but if you read the fine print of the chemicals you will find the chemical compounds of bleach.

Extensions are the way to go without chemicals

to get highlights, you'll have to do it professionally (because of the tiny strips of hair that need to be dyed) and they will usually bleach.
HOWEVER, maybe you can get a consultation and see if they can use a natural dye w/o ammonia and no need for bleach. Aveda and other natural companies have good alternatives.
for my hair i always use natural dyes and they work out well, sometimes to get the end result you have to dye it at least twice. but that's for the whole head. teenie strips of hair are harder to do on your own hair.

black hair is hard to get highlighted- kuz it hard to go from black all the way to blonde- but u should try gettin it done like a lightish brown color, that should come out good. i have brown hair and its very hard to dye it lighter kuz its so dark- 4 u it will be even harder-i suggest u get it done a solon (sp) kuz if u do it urself w/ black hair it might not turn out right! good luck & hope it turnz out good!♥

also, dont go 2 light kuz u dont want it to look streaked (unless u want it like that -lol)
u want it 2 b natural looking!

Yea i totally agree with the guy saying that you should go brown or else you'll look like a skunk, however, if you still want that look and you don't wanna bleach your hair you can always try extensions.

i know this sound's crazy but you should put squeezed lemon juice on your hair like about 2 lemons. although you can dye your hair know because you would need to stand in the sunlight for a couple of hours, the longer you stay and the right amount of lemon juice you put on your hair, the more brown your hair will turn. my sister tried it and her hair sorta turned brown. it didn't turn brown that much because she only had half a lemon

use a crayon or a marker I guess - of course you will have to bleach your hair somewhat to get a lighter color if your hair is black otherwise it won't look right or last long
