Religion is man's attempt to understand the cosmos by putting a human face on it.

"God" is the cosmos, its people, its universes, its science and its laws. It is non interfering, non intervening and non judgmental.

Religion has no bridge to "God".

Religion is the adherence to codified beliefs and rituals that (generally) involve a faith in a spiritual nature and a study of inherited ancestral traditions, knowledge and wisdom related to understanding human life. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to faith as well as to the larger shared systems of belief.

"God" is the deity believed by monotheists to be the supreme reality. "God" is believed variously to be the sole creator, or at least the sustainer, of the universe. The majority of people in the world today believe in a monotheistic God, especially the Abrahamic God of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, although there are other monotheistic religions .

So do I believe in and/or worship such a being? No. I do not worship the Middle Eastern monotheistic god. I am a polytheist and while I believe that many god exist, I do not respect or honor them all. My Gods are the Aesir and the Vanir and my religion is Ásatrú.

Well I actually think that human beings have some ancient genetic predisposition to have some belief in gods - it is a deep psychological need to make sense of the understanding of ourselves as individual beings. I believe religion is inherently dangerous to humankind and been so usurped by megalomaniac sociopaths that nothing good can be salvaged even by those whose hearts are pure. I don't for a second believe in the Judeo Christian God of the Old and New Testaments.

Religion is generally a set of beliefs or values based on the assumption of a God.

A definition of God will invariably depend on which religion a person believes in (or doesn't)

I do think God and religion go hand in hand. It's kind of hard to believe in God (any god) and not have some sense of values, and beliefs associated with said god. But it is also very possible to have a set of beliefs and values that have nothing to do with a god

So a religion seems to need a god, while values and beliefs do not.

Religion: The control of the masses through fear of punishment from a God!
God: The fantasy character created by religion to control the masses!
Yes the two are linked. After all those that created the religion created the God!

God, the Supreme Creator of the Universe, even science admits that it all started with a big bang, only thing they can't explain is where is the big bang come from?
Religion - An organization entrusted with teaching people about God, the Supreme One. Only most religions, are involved with teaching their own agendas, or their own importance, not in teaching the truth about God. Only one religion teaches the truth of God, it's up to us to search for God, and in the searching he will let himself be found by you, if you have the right heart condition, humble, hungry for spiritual truth

Not all religions have gods, so no, the two are not related, though the belief in god is often included in a religion's doctrine.
