What can one expect to spend per day staying in Thailand? (not including hotel) Like transportation, food, drink etc.

Also how much could it cost to go from Bangkok to southern islands (like Krabi and others)?

P.S. This question is NOT for those who have no spending limits. More budget friendly.

I've lived in Bangkok for eight years now. One can spend very little money here or a lot. Many Thais make only about 5000 baht or US$140 a month and some make even less. If you want to live as they do, it could be very cheap. That means you never eat in a restaurant, but from street vendors and you stay in a room without air-conditioning or a private bathroom.

Eating food from street vendors is usually risky for foreigners--the standard of cleanliness is not what you'd find in western countries. The main problem has to do with the way they wash dishes and not in the food itself especially if the food is cooked in front of you.

Bangkok and Phuket are the most expensive places in Thailand, but it's possible to find bargains even in these locations. I went to a nice restaurant for lunch today here in Bangkok and the total bill was 520 baht (US$14.50 including tip) for two people and that included two glasses of beer for each of us. As you might expect, Thai food is cheaper than any other kind.

Most tourist locations (except for Pattaya) and all places in Phuket near the beach are relatively expensive. The southern islands and Krabi are moderately expensive. The rest of the country is much cheaper with the north and northeast Thailand being the cheapest. If you don't care about tourist locations, you can save a lot of money. Krabi which is not a hot tourist spot is cheaper than Phuket even though they're not that far apart. Bang Saen, which is a beach resort area mostly for Thais, the prices are half or less than what one would pay in a popular tourist spot. I love to go there not just because of the low prices, but because the seafood restaurants are among the best in Thailand. Bang Saen is located between Bangkok and Pattaya.

Air Asia has the lowest airfares between Bangkok and Krabi. For the lowest fare, one must purchase an e-ticket online at http://www.airasia.com. You need to select "Malaysia" when entering the site to get English. Currently, I've found fares between the two locations as low as 750 baht (US$21) each way plus tax. To get the lowest fares, one must book early. Air Asia is a no-frills airline and luggage restrictions are significant.

It's possible to spend less than 1,000 baht (US$27.75) a day for food and still feel that you're not sacrificing anything. Of course, you can spend even less, but in that case, you'd be watching every baht you spend.

Well i went with my g/f last april for 2 weeks. Stayed in Bankok for 3 - 4 days then travelled to Pattaya for 4 -5 days then went back to Bangkok till we came home.

I knew Thailand would be cheap but didnt think it would be so cheap that going half way round the world (uk) and it would still be a cheap hoilday.

We did everything, had a day doing temples and a snake farm. Went on the river alot, hired a taxi for the day - this day cost about £30.
This was the most we spent on a day in Thailand, apart from a Elephant trex in Pattaya which was about £14 each plus about £4 tip.

Regarding transport it is essential to geta good guide book (loanly planet etc) and read the section on transport alot of scams about so better get informed about them all b4 u go. Get a metered taxi if possible, didnt see to many to barter your way to whereever you go. Generally whatever they say half it and then half again and stick to it. Tuk Tuk's are good fun but do only one cos the poloution. The skytrain is great and ait conditiond and should be used alot. All these are cheap.

Alchol is the most expensive thing there really in comparison. say %40 of English prices. food depending on where you go is more like %15 of english prices.

Enjoy it....need any more advice email me on andybing1978@yahoo.com

Thailand is cheap if you know how to barter, not as cheap as Vietnam but is more second world. Buses go from Bangkok to Islands at a good price, different prices at different agents for same bus, shop around. My Bangkok accomodation cost about $3 US/night, heaps to chose from. Thailand can be done on $10 US/day but if you want to get out more you will want a budget of $20 to $30 US/ day.

My air fare from Hawaii was $680. RT my hotel was total $240 for 3 weeks nice hotel my food was I can only guess $100 but I still lost 7 pounds. A very nice river trip and dinner was $50 I recommend this. I don't remember the tour name it was to an old ruins north of BKK.
Be careful in the patpong district you can spend a Lot there on boys or girls taxi are cheap you can go most any place for 200 bath. about 40 bath /$ motor scooter are cheaper but hold on. tuk tuk are OK but taxi will keep you out of the pollution more. Always ask the driver if taxi is meter,,,if not wait for another,,This will be my 4th trip and I will go back. you will love the Thai people,, have fun BUT DON'T GO TO JAIL

The safest way is to reserve about Baht 1000/day (about $25/day). Going to Southern Thailand (Phuket, Krabi, Samui), the round-trip ticket from Bangkok is about Baht 3,800 (about $90). But the daily expenses are the same.
