Trazadone was developed as an atidepressant. It is seldom used as an antidepressant anymore, because of the side effects and the fact that there are so many newer antidepressants on the market. One of the most prevalent side effects of this medication, even at low doses, was fatigue/drowsiness. So that was when they began to prescribe it for insomnia. The dosage given for sleep is much lower than that given for use as an antidepressant. The side effects are drowsiness or dizziness and sometimes "left-over" tiredness in the morning. Maybe some dry mouth.

Trazodone is an anti-depressant. All drugs have potential side effects. I took this one for a very short time and stopped because I didn't like the way it made me feel. My brother took it for a much longer period of time for a different reason and had no problems with it. Here's a link that gives some info.

Trazadone is a tranquilizer. It is usually prescribed to help settle you down and help you sleep when traditional sleep meds dont work such as Tylenol PM ambien and such. You might feel like you have cobwebs in your head when you wake up until you get used to it and get on a schedule, sometimes also with getting used to it you may have headaches. Its a wonderful drug for those of us who CANT SLEEP....like me.
