If I had a $1000 to change the life of a stranger, I would visit a single mother's shelter and set up trust funds for some of the children there. That way the money would have time to mature, and when the kids came of age they could use if for college or a first apartment; something their mothers might not be able to give to them. It would mean a future was available.

Ask the stranger. I am assuming this means to improve a persons life? Because $1000 isnt really enough to make a difference to the life of anyone exept those who are living in poverty.

Too often social welfare type projects, handout , programs fail because they are the 'idea' of a person who hasnt got the need.

Community/individual consultation is the only way we will make a difference that actually is sustainable. If you ask a person "tell me how your life would look if it was good", everyone will be able to answer. Few people are so discouraged that they don't have a 'dream' of how their life could be. If you want to really help... offer to assist the person to achieve 'their' dream by helpng them to access resources and support, not just handouts.

Good question though!

I'd find a nice small boutique and spend it all there. Now the owner has $1,000, I have a new wardrobe, and everyone is happy!

How did that $1,000 change her life, you ask? Well, she didn't have it before. Now she does. That's a change!

I don't think it would change anyone's life but I would go to a Salvation Army thrift store in late August and give $100 to the first 10 people I see bringing his/her children in to buy school clothes.

Spend every bit of it on the perfect stranger as it would be the reason you give it to me and I'm sure it would change them cause they will finally get what some of what they were needing.

I fix and give Bicycles to kids whose parents would not be able to get them one any other way..... So I guess I would buy as many bikes as I could with the 1000.00 and then with the money that is left buy parts for the used ones I already have.......
Then I would look at all those smiling faces as I give them away............

I'd pay a crackhead 250 dollars to shoot him/her in the spine.
Then I would have 750 and that strangers life would definitely be changed!

Okay that was a joke answer.
It all depends on who the person is.

Unfortunately I have seen what happens with donated clothing, food etc. - they just get sold and not given to the people who actually needs it. So I'd walk up to a prostitute... give it to her and say... here, take the night off.
