I have been syringe feeding him. I've blended fish, milk and vitamins, milk and cereal. He is taking a small amount but rejecting the rest. We can't keep him inside because it's the height of summer and we have no air conditioning and he's a veritible houdini, even with all the windows and doors shut. We have cleaned the bank out with vet fees and can't afford any more treatment there. Does anyone have any cheap pain relief ideas for cats? Anyone know of any feeding ideas for a cat who can't chew?

You can't feed the baby food long-term as it has no taurine in it. You can get canned a/d from the vet office. Most cats like that when they will eat nothing else. It is high calorie and protein and good for an ailing cat.

Baby food must not contain ANY onion powder or garlic. Be sure to read the label on the jar. Onion can cause severe anemia in cats. The a/d would be better. Chicken and turkey are the most digestible in baby food - lots of cats don't do well with beef.

You can give the cat 30Cof homeopathic arnica. That's for pain or swelling right after his surgery. Three doses a day for maybe two days. By then his mouth should feel better.

Try baby food...Really! The vet office I worked at would keep jarred chicken, beef, lamb on hand for animals that needed to be force fed. You can warm it a bit to make it more appealing to the cat. Its much smellier that way. Talk to your vet about a pain patch or a prescription. Most animal prescriptions are pretty reasonable. The pain patch might be easier. They basically shave a small patch of hair and apply it. No need to force feed pills. They may have you come back to have it changed.

Most cats are lactose intolerent and cannot digest milk. Try goats milk or water instead of milk. Or try some of the meat baby foods. and feed him a little bit (the ammount he is taking now about) every two hours, like a baby.
