I've been trying different types of cat litter to try and help the really stinky poop smell and nothing works. My cats poop just stinks horribly! Any suggestions??

Hi Bree...many of the commercially available cat food products such as Whiskas, Purina, Science Diet sold in supermarkets and pet stores contain corn, corn meal which ferment as it broken down within the digestive system leading to very stinky poo. Feeding human food as treats also can contribute to smelly poo as well. However, this also depends on the animal's genetics as well. Like humans, when two people eat the very same thing one person's business may stink to high heaven moreso than another (we can't compare our own poo since we'd obviously be biased.) I have two cats who's genetic makeup are quite different from one another (F1 Bengal --1/2 wild & 1/2 domestic -- and Abyssinian). They both eat the same identical high premium quality foods yet the Bengal's poo is so strong it would make a good substitute for chloroform, where the Aby's isn't so bad and is very tolerable.

Some of the high protein cat foods (which contains no corn based products or byproducts) found only at specialty pet stores such as Innova EVO, Life's Abundance, Nature's Variety Prairie may help minimize the stinky calling cards, but again it truly depends on the cat's genetic makeup. They are quite expensive compared to the supermarket brands, but if your intended goal is to lower the overall gas chamber effect you may need to experiment which works best.

Seattle is right. It is most likely the food. There is a plant called Yucca schidigera That is in most Super Premium Foods. It cuts down on fecal odor. I would also like to state that my cat got VERY sick from all the commercial brands of Litter. Try Swheat Scoops http://www.swheatscoop.com/. It is good for your pet and the environment. It is 100% biodegradable and it is odor free. It really helps the smell. Good Luck

If you havent tried the kitty litter with the blue crystals in it, you should! I cant remember the name, but it comes in a bag or in a plastic container that you can see through! The blue crystals are the very best! Don't let the price scare you away! They work twice as well. So, if you are lazy like me you won't have to change it as much! It's worth it!

Unfortnately it all stinks real bad. you should remove it from the litter tray as soon as you find it as cats dont like a messy litter tray. I found the best litter is the crystal litter it reduces odour and lasts longer too.

definitely change the food. more expensive foods are better and they don't eat them as fast, so it's worth going that root. as for the litter box, use baking soda and clean the box once or twice a day to control odours until the new food settles in. it could take a month to work.

What are you feeding him? Try the Nutro line! My cats sh*t reaked when I was feeding him purina so I switched his diet and it improved a little! Its more expensive but its healthy, provides them with a healthy coat, etc! I just wish when my cat took a dump he'd cover it up! Hes is extremely proud of his funky stench! I use fresh step litter and it works out alright! Good luck!

make it poo outside. Cat poo is the smelliest substance known to pet owners. Kittens tend to be worse though so is your cat is very young perhaps things will improve.........or maybe it's just because when my cats grew up they started going outside, I remember one incident many years ago where the offending article was so smelly that even after emptying the litter tray and washing it out I had to leave the house for an hour and that was from an adult cat.
