how come the label atheist even exist??

it is mind boggling. no offense, but it is quite dumb to believe that there is no higher deity at work. how do atheists go about their business without keeping an open mind. we are in control of ourselves and the path we take but there is no question in my mind that there is a god. how do you explain the superficial things we experience in life? the miracles, etc. and if there if no god how come a vast majority of the world's population have a belief in something. in my opinion, it just seems like atheists are lost, confused, stubborn, or frustrated by the believers, there are alot of reasons why atheists are atheists. ultimately, there is definitely something at work here. one of the universal truths in life: there is a god and im not him. so if there are any atheists out there whats the deal? it is a fact that atheists are treated the worst in our society more than any other characteristic. im just wonderin why atheist lose the label and at least are agnostic. stop shutting it out.

like i said, they are treated the worst and it is obvious why. and to be frankly honest, i havent met one single intelligent atheist. the intellectual individuals at least believe in evolution or the big bang. and that just didnt happen out of the blue. everything happens for a reason.

...why? I've been looking my entire life and I've never seen ANY convincing evidence for a "higher deity" that couldn't be explained naturally by something else. What am I missing here?

Atheists DO have an open mind. If you could present evidence that proves there is a God, every single atheist here would accept it. But that's never happened.

There are 6.5 billion people on this planet, and trillions and trillions and trillions of situations happen every day. It's totally normal and understandable that some crazy things are going to happen eventually. Someone's going to get into a car accident and survive against all odds, others are going to get into dangerous situations with little hope and make it out alive. But for every person who decides to not go to the store and lucks out because there was a gunman inside, there's another person who DOES go to that store with the gunman and gets shot and killed. So no, "miracles" don't convince me either.

Because it's comforting. People don't want to believe that there isn't someone higher than them up above that cares about them and loves them and has an awesome afterlife planned out for them. But that doesn't mean there IS one.

Because we honestly, genuinely, seriously do not believe that any sort of deity exists. We look around at the planet and we see beauty and majesty, but we don't see design. We see complexity but we don't see anything that couldn't have formed naturally. And we don't hear about any experiences that happen to people that couldn't be explained by coincidence or chance or something like that. If you have some piece of information that would prove us wrong, then by all means, share it... but I've been looking my entire life and I haven't seen it.

The word shouldn't exist, just like the word evolutionist shouldn't exist - why?

The same way we don't have a word 'gravitationalist' for people who accept the theory of gravity and don't think they'll fall up in to the sky at any minute.

OH, and I can't help but add that many, many studies show an inverse correlation between intelligence/education on one hand and religiosity on the other - that is smarter people are less likely to be religious - so yes, you should ask the opinions of atheists. I expect most of us know more than you in quite objective terms.

Atheist is a label, so that a person can clarify what their belief system is, A-Theism -one who does not believe a there is a god. When in fact there are many, Goddess of Luck, God of money, God of materialism, God of food, God of gold, God of Prosperity,
God of Power, I could go on and on, whatever a person is wrapped up in -it is the sole focus of their life. This is their god or goddess. Atheist's for some reason choose to deny the wonder of creation, and with good reason, when science keeps throwing "evolution" in our faces. And should you happen to publicly debunk evolution, watch out! It's a choice people make, sad, but a choice, so each of us must face the consequence of what our choices are.
