My mother occasionally let me drink it with little coffe and lots of milk when I was small, but it is definitely not good for kids to drink it every day. As a matter of fact, it is not even good for adults. Caffein causes physical addiction, just like nicotine in cigarettes, and although not as harmful as smoking, it is not healthy to consume excessive amounts of caffein. They should even watch how much coke the kid drinks.

There is no compelling evidence that coffee stunts the growth of children, but it's generally a bad idea to give kids caffeine. It can interfere with sleep habits, exacerbate hyperactivity, and contribute to dehydration. Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it causes the body to eliminate water.
Kids get most of their caffeine through soft drinks. By opting for these fizzy drinks over milk, vegetable, or fruit juices, children can miss out on nutrients. Also, both caffeinated drinks and many juices can contain hefty helpings of sugar, and excessive sugar consumption is a big contributing factor to childhood obesity.
Not surprisingly, coffee and caffeine are a constant subject of health studies. A recent search of the Yahoo! Health News resulted in articles claiming that caffeine is a contributing factor in heartburn, high blood pressure, and even still-births.
Still, the general consensus is that moderate consumption of caffeine (200-300 mg, or two cups of coffee, a day) doesn't pose a health risk.

I started drinking coffee when I was about 11 or 12. I'm now 22 and I'm 6 ft 4. And I kicked some *** in high school football. It does stunt your growth its fine. Whats in it thats bad for a 12 yr old? Rather than in a Coke?

Not only is it bad for the 12 year old... But they will crave it every day then need it to get through the day, ick what an awful habit.
The caffeine messes up with hormone balace and the entire nervous system.
So, unless the parent wants to deal with other addictions down the line I would give coffee very seldom.

Just let your cousin know that if her kids complain of a headache, that they are not sick... they are withdrawing from the caffeine.
If they are doing really good in school, then she's feeding them a breakfast every morning. If they are having trouble in school, then she is not feeding them breakfast and only coffee in the mornings. In affect, the caffeine wore off and their brains were starving during lecture time and testing.
She's the mom, she knows better.

It is fine for children to drink coffee. It has been proven in the past to help those with ashma to breath better. I know cuz the doctors told my Mom to have my younger sister drink coffee to help her. Coffee isn't going to stop them from growing.

I don't beleive that caffene stunts your growth. However it could be addictive. I use to drink coffee during the weekends since I was 10. I'm 5'10". Everyday could become habit forming and the child can become addicted to the caffene to the point if he doesn't have it, he could get horrible headaches. I use to be addicted to caffene and have since stopped drinking any caffinated items (soda, tea, coffee)
