****I couldn't fit the word some into the title of my question, sorry****

I had a client in my office preaching to me today.

He asked me if I was a Christian and I said no (Big mistake)

He kept pointing things out that he just learned as if he was dropping the wisdom of the ages on me.

Explaining the alternative theories of Genesis and what not

I told him I already knew all that stuff.

After he was done preaching he said he could tell I was really interested in knowing about God because if I wasn't I wouldn't have listened to him talk.

Why are some Christians so convinced that just because you know about their religion you will convert or you are seeking their god?

Ignorance... They can't grasp the concept that people have no desire to believe. If they did they would already be christian.

Not all Christians are that way. I really don't know a lot of Christians that run around trying to 'recruit' (it could be my town or something, I don't know). If you've had religious conversations with him before, he may have thought you were trying to inquire and were on the road to conversion. I totally understand that there are some non-believers that know more theology than me.

You sound highly intelligent and I understand your reasoning behind your non-belief (from a previous answer to one of my questions). Don't take it too personal...

They are brainwashed. yeah I left Christianity and I get told that I want to come back. When i was a Christian i was a member of many different churches until I found the one that followed closest to the bible and I would have people in those churches I left tell me I would be happier if I went to their type church and when they found out I left, all you know what broke loose.

I know a lot about God. That's precisely why I fail to believe in him.

It's a tactic they have learned that the church uses often. In a way, it puts them on top of the argument. It's a pretty common debate trick. It's convincing to the audience, but not to the individual in question, so it boosts the confidence of the followers, while not actually accomplishing anything with the non-believer in question.

I don't think they neccessarily believe that. I think they just want to make it available to you and make sure you are certain of your beliefs. Some people have a tendency to shut off their hearing when it comes to anyone talking about religion. If they are truly Christians they only want you to have they knowledge you need, and that you know how to get more. Give them a break.........Go ye therefore and teach all nations......

They think because we are interested and have done lots of thinking about that it means we are lacking or needing something in our lives. We think a lot about it because we were raised to think we were going to hell for doubting. We invested a lot of time thinking about it for that reason. Usually the reason we leave Christianity is precisely because we have done that thinking.

Probably just because, well, me I am LDS (mormon) and I wonder how people who were raised in the church fall away from it and reject the gospel. I guess it's probably because we feel as though we "know" the truth and it's easy to understand for "us" so why not you? That would be my guess.
It's like seeing something right infront of you but not grabbing it.

We can only hope that the Word of God is acted upon when it is presented to a person.
It is still your choice whether you accept the truth or not.

It's quite simple. They're feeding off of your fear. I don't think people are consiously afraid of it, but no one knows what happens after we die. Christians feed off of that by trying to provide answers.

How they expect to answer that BIG question when then dodge the smaller ones you ask and treat you like you don't know anything is beyond me though. It's just my theory though. I haven't had the chance to, but I'd love to study it more in psychology.

Lets just say he just found a great treasure and he is very sure you would want THE SAME THING. I know its bad analogy, but don't you share money or stock tips with people you meet or know? Same idea SORT OF.

(eye roll and groan on your behalf) I totally relate.

Maybe next time he says something like that you could say, "No, I just didn't want to be impolite and tell you how unprofessional it is to talk about such things in a business setting."
I know, it's a client, so you have to maintain the relationship.. this is why I say christianity is a disease that infects its followers.
They are totally oblivious to the fact that there are people in the world who are inherently immune to it.

You have my sympathy.
