"Most" kids don't drop out of High School. High School is an important part of an adolescents edcation but also their social development. Do you really think that elementary and middle school taught you all or even most of what you need to know?

Because if there were no highschools, there would be nowhere to drop out of?

Dropping out is a thing to be regretted by most. I'm still debating which was more retarded, dropping out in the first place or immediately getting my GED and destroying the option of going back when I was ready. School is incredibly important for socialization skills. It's been close to a year since I dropped out, and at 17 I've went from social butterfly to hermit because of some really shitty curcumstances. Once out, it's hard to go back. highschool's the transition phase between middle school and college, which is becoming more and more necissary over the years. Encorages kids to stay in school until they mature to the point where they realise it's a good idea to continue education either way.

Good enough answer? Straight from a droppout's mouth.

And no, most kids don't drop out these days. it varies throughout the country, but the graduation rate is almost invariably higher than the droppout rate.

Dropping out is REAL bad. It is good to finish High School an go to college. With out a degree you can;t earn much from a High School Degree. Education is power..get power..YES

Only 60% to 70% of kids who start kindergarten, do not make it all the way to high school, in the US. The 30% that do, need the schools. Of course, those 30% have their own problems. For instance, I read that one school had 40 valedictorians graduating together! Clearly, that was grade inflation. Still, it is better being a college dropout than a high-school dropout. Only 40% of students who begin college do not graduate.

If you are smart, kind and not the typical idiotic teenager, you will drop out, teach yourself, and get your GED. With your GED you can go on to college. It is a fact that people with GED's make more money than people with a high school diploma. School is one of the main things that makes today's teen generation terrible. Hate, noise, and everything else in a tiny building with 2000+ students. In high school, they did not teach a single thing. They gave out work, period. I really can't understand how people can be stupid enough to stay in school and learn absolutely nothing, when they could be moving on to college, a job and a life.

First of all they have high schools to broden your learning power. You wouldn't want to stop a 8th grade would you? And most kids don't drop out only the few that are to lazy to work at getting good grades. Education is the key to ending proverty. But if you have no goals for yourself you will never have anything.

Maybe it is just the people who you hang out with who drop out but nationally that percentage is very low....maybe you should get new friends. What do you expect to be able to do with your life once you drop out? You probably could not even get a decent job seeing how most require AT LEAST as high school diploma.

Good call, why don't we all agree to shut down all high schools? We'll offer kids an education up to the 8th grade then we'll set em free on the world. Eventually they'll grow up and take positions of power. I'm sure their 8th grade education will be enough for all of them to contribute to a vital and balanced society. I'm sure none of them wanted to have specific skill sets anyways, who needs doctors or engineers anyways? We'll just go back to living in small huts and caves, we'll ride a donkey when we need transportation. Wow, you were right on the ball. This sounds like a great plan to me.

Your assumption is incorrect -- most kids do NOT drop out.
Nationally, about 4% of high school students drop out (don't finish). That means 96% of them do finish.

Now, if you're asking about the quality of education they get in high school, even for those who finish, *then* you have something to complain about. But the drop out rate isn't that bad. :)

because "most" kids dont drop out. Less than 20% of students drop out of highschool. Being educated is a great thing, its always useful in someway. You personally may not need the education you have but there will come a time when someone may need your help and you will be able to educate them.
