They have several good links for transporting a firearm in a motor vehicle. It can be done. I specific circumstances you can go across state lines. It's called a magazine, not a clip. (Sorry, as a firearms instructor that's a major pet peeve of mine.)

There are two issues here. The first is what is legal and the second is what will get you in trouble, even though it is not illegal.
Your question is a bit vague. Are you asking what is legal or are you asking what you can do without a problem? The fact is that you can carry a loaded firearm in the vehicle without a CCW permit (Vermont there is no CCW permit), but then next part is what will ht outcome be if you get caught :-).
This first thing is that there is a difference between a magazine and a clip. Many people use the wrong term and call a magazine a clip. There is an item called a clip:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clip_%28ammunition%29
You need to check your local laws to determine what is legal. There is often a difference between long guns and hand guns. Such as allowing long guns to be inside the vehicle (pickup truck rifle racks, for example). The laws vary as to when a firearm is considered loaded. In some cases it is when there is a round in the chamber, in other cases when the round is touching the firearm.
For example of what I am talking about, in CA the magazine is not considered part of the firearm (Re: CA Gun Laws by Peter Kasler), but many officers will consider it part of the firearm and arrest you, then you have a fight on your hands and a lot of legal expenses. Also, it is legal to carry a handgun inside the vehicle in a locked container or carry it locked in the trunk, but I have seen cases where the officer will arrest the person if it is not locked in a container in the trunk and some officers want the ammunition locked in a separate container.
You are also asking for trouble if you have a loaded magazine in your glove box since if the police see it, most likely they will think that they have a right to search your vehicle (depending on the state).

First question: how plenty journey shooting do you have? From the tone of your question, i might risk a wager which you're fairly new to it wherein case i might advise a 9mm, and the pronounced Sig is a huge determination. Revolvers are super for no fuss, yet semi-automatics tend to kick much less and are greater hassle-free for amateur shooters to deal with. .40 and .40 5 have an excellent kick and collectively as they are probable the two greater efficient self protection calibers, they have an inclination to scare new shooters, reducing your accuracy. 2d question: how massive are you and how massive are your palms? once you're a competent sized guy, a double stack such because of the fact the Sig p226 or p229 may well be positive. If, like me, you have small palms and are fairly petite, the Sig p239 is a huge gun. I surely have 3, one in 9mm, one in .40 s&w, and one is .357 Sig. The 9mm is palms down my prominent gun and that i carry it everywhere different than downtown wherein case I carry the .40. you ought to have the skill to discover a blued one for type of $600 new and 400-500 used. an excellent sort of money, particular, yet you get what you pay for. 0.33 question: the place do you reside? in case you reside in an house, a small, speedy high quality such because of the fact the .357 Sig does no longer be an exceedingly good determination. maximum human beings advise house dwellers get the two a 9mm or a .40 5 with good JHPs so it it much less probable they are going to shoot by way of a wall and hit a neighbor. additionally, a pistol is greater efficient for fairly restrained areas. in case you have a huge open ranch type abode, a shotgun is super for self protection. So is a 9mm, .40, .40 5 or .38 particular (with +P rounds). As others have pronounced, bypass to a unfold and attempt as many as you will get your paws on, discover one you like. in case you do no longer like it, you will no longer carry it, and it could as properly be a 2 lb rock sitting on your secure.

Depends where you live. In Canada the pistol would have to be in a locked container in the trunk and unloaded. You would also need a special permit to move the gun from place to place.
By the way, Canada has a lower gun related crime rate, and way more guns per capita than in the US. Gun control works.

It depends on the state that you live in. In Texas we can carry a loaded weapon in our vehicles without a permit. In order to carry a pistol on your person you must obtain a pistol.
I suggest you contact the NRA, they have a variety of material on state gun laws.
If you are not in the NRA join.

It depends on the laws in your state.
New Mexico used to allow you to open carry, Ohio still has open carry and now concealed carry (with training). I'm not sure about each states laws.

it depends on 1. if you are lic. to carry a handgun in that particular state. 2. if you are transporting a firearm across state lines, 1. it is a federal crime to do so 2. if legally doing so, it must be kept in a separate locked container, unloaded
