Is this a crank but no start condition? I will assume so. If you poured gas into the TBI unit and nothing happened, we can safely assume that it is not a fuel problem. First thing to do is take the coil wire off and turn the motor over to check for maximum spark output from the coil tower to ground. It should crackle and spark all the way to a ground and be consistent. If there is weak spark, you need a coil. If there is no spark, you have a problem in the primary side of the ignition. With a test light hooked into the tach side of the coil or the white wire and all still hooked up, turn the ignition system on. The test light should be on solid. Now turn the motor over, the test light should blink very quickly. If it does not blink, you either have a pick-up coil problem, a faulty ignition module, or the dist. shaft has worn out. Remove the cap and inspect shaft by trying to wiggle it, if it flops around, you need a complete distributor. Check the pick-up coil wires for connection integrity and if good, check the resistance of the coil. I think it should be around a thousand ohms or so. If this is good, replace the module and if not replace the pick-up coil. If you have spark from the coil, check spark at the plug ends. If there is no spark here and the dist. shaft is spinning, you have a delivery problem with bad spark plug wires, cap, or rotor problems. Good luck.

sounds to me like a spark problem.Those trucks still had a separate coil unit instead of the new solid state type Coil packs that they use now.What you need to do is pull the number one spark plug and leave it connected to the plug wire.Use a rubberized handled screw driver and hold it up close to the filament end of the plug and have some one crank the truck over to see if you get an arch (spark) coming off it to the screw driver.If not then there is your issue.Take the coil off and take it to a mechanic and have them test it.But first check to see if you blew a fuse.Check "all" of the fuses under the dash with a test light and the key in the "on" position.In most cases its the coil or a spark sensor that goes bad and makes it go from starting to not starting at all.

if u know for sure car is getting fuel next place to look is it getting fire //pull one spark plug out put the wire back on set the plug tip on metal of motor you dont get spark// first check wife to the coil then check or replace distributor components until you get fire all it takes for a car to run is gas and spark/// true story if u take all the electronics off the gas engine you have the same engine henry ford created in1925

This has happened to me twice with GM vehicles.There is a ignition modual in your distributor that can fail when the engine is turned off. Who knows why it does it when the engine is shut off?! This is a simple and cheap repair to do yourself too.

We owned a truck about this year. Check your electronic ignition and your rotor. If the rotor has a crack it will not start. It just takes a pin hole to make it not start. Good luck.

Sounds like the starter....If you can remove it or know how to they take it in to be tested. Most local automotive shops will do it for free or really cheap.
