Most parent and toddler groups are from birth up to school age.
It is certainly worth enquiring about though. Babies brains develop so quickly and it will boost your daughter's inter-personal skills. If the group is not suitable for babies then it gives you the perfect opportunity to find out where will be suitable. Also for a general enquiry you don't need to give your name if you phone so there will be no embarrassment. Take time out to really enjoy quality time with your daughter. My son's nearly 3 and it's really flown over.

I have visited many toddler groups as part of my job and seen babies from a couple of days old. Generally the very young ones are either siblings of children who already go, or have an older sibling who has gone in the past - it didn't occur to be to take my little boy until he was about 8 months, simply because the thought hadn't occured to me!! By that point though, I was starting to get cabin fever and was desperate for adult company!!

If you are wanting to take a young child, my advice would be to go for one which has plenty of songs and stories, rather than one that is more play/craft orientated as your little one will get more out of the singing and stories.

Visit a few before you settle on just one or two (or as many as you want to go to) as you may find that one wil cater better for a baby than another - not all have bouncers, baby toys and mats, and one that I go to is a soft play!!

You can get a list of your local toddler groups by contacting your local children's information service if you are in England.

You can go to mother and toddler group when your child is very small, even soon after birth if you like. You can continue to go until your child attends nursery or school. If you feel uncomfortable with toddler groups, there are mother and baby groups, but they are virtually the same anyway. Its a great way to get to know other mums, and for your child to get used to other children.

Some people go with babies, some with toddlers, some with both! They certainly won't think you're stupid if you say your child is 5 months old, but some groups can be a bit noisy for babies. However it is a great way to meet other mums in your area, so I'd say, go for it, after all if you don't like it you don't have to go again!

Most groups are for mums/dads with a child under 5, some go from a couple of months old.

Usually 18 months old is the age of the kids in toddlers groups.

My daughter went ae 11 days old, as I was already there with my son.

It's more for you than the baby, although they start to get things out of it when they start sitting up and watching the other children.

If the gfroup is popular there may be a waiting list, so it is worth a call anyway.

Good luck.

I started taking my son at 11 months, but I had my daughter 3 months later so obviously she had to come, see's much more advanced than he brother, and I put it down to the interaction with the other children from the start. Once the littleone can old a rattle and notice whats going on they are old enough.

This is something that often varies from group to group. Some have a moderator who decides what age limits there are, and others will allow you in at any age. This is something you really do need to ask the group's coordinator.
