My kitchen is a blank slate-- would appreciate suggestions for a cheerful color scheme. It has stainless steel appliances, dark wood cabinets, off white tiled countertops, and off-white porcelain tile floor. There is a sliding glass door and window over the sink. I do not want to wallpaper but will paint the walls, and I am open to a wall paper border. I am a single professional girl, 25, with a large dog. I do not want it to look like my mother lives here! Appreciate your ideas! And I will be doing the work myself.

The larger stores like Lowe's and Home Depot have a computer that will show you different color schemes. It really helps to be able to see different colors on the wall and how well they do or do not go together. Also the paint mfgs. have booklets that show several color combinations and they are great for ideas to get you started. As far as what is in, thats really what you like, I've seen kitchens painted many different colors so if you like it, its in.

Good luck.

Paint your kitchen lemon yellow for a cheerful ambience and apply border strips up by the ceiling of French designs, such as pastry chefs or buildings of Paris and then buy little accents - kitchen towels and potholders with the same theme.

I think apple green would be great--youthful and modern. Skip that wallpaper border (it's so your mom) and dress up the walls by hanging something cool and unusual on your wall instead--funky trivets, old antique signs, get creative.

no border it IS so out.....How about an old world syle...a tuscan feel...........goggle it....or an IKEA modern....and give some thought into painting the ceiling, it really gives rooms alot sophistication.....check HGTV.com and look into Divine Design shows on kitchens, that woman is really a great decorator.
