I do it so it makes me seem friendly and cute. I use "lol" a lot, not quite every two seconds, but just where someone might get the wrong impression or i'm nervous about something -- like im embarassed to say something. lol

As eloquent as Da9's response is, I think Nessa's probably got it right on. It could also be that they use it as a filler if they are uncomfortable or feeling like a dumb a s s for whatever reason.

I have been given yet another. Order a pizza with each and every thing on it and supply the cook dinner as confusing a time as obtainable, changing your order whilst they repeat it. try this various circumstances and whilst the pizza guy comprises the door, tell them which you probably did no longer order a pizza. =D

first of all, its not just a valley girl thing
other ppl do it too
i say lol all the time
there r two main reasons:
1)no one's talking (IMing) so they say lol
2)everyone is talking (IMing) and they just want to say something
or cuz someone said (IMed) something funny.
or if its just themselves talking they (i) say it to show that they meant watever they said as a joke
if u noticed,i used all IM talk in this, helping you understand
