Hello all. Thank you so much for your helpful answers. I went to the doc yesterday. I don't know I don't feel a lot better. He felt it and said it was a swollen lymph node. But he said he did not think it was anything to worry about. Come back in 3-4 weeks to re-check. Then I told him over Christmas I had a temp of 101. and I have had pain off and on in the breast by the same armpit (remember breastfeeding for 12 mths) He said then come back in 2 weeks and if still there do a ultrasound. But he didnt tell me why or what he thought. I love him but he was in a hurry and I still dont know if I have something horrible wrong. Why did he change it to 2 weeks?

HONEY be pushy!!!! This is your life and your body!! If you feel uneasy about what he has told you, get a second opinion!!! I would go to the OBGYN and request a Mammogram and an ULTRASOUND!! If this still does not ease your mind, you get a biopsy of the lump!! You have the right! GET ER DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a Hodgkin's lymphoma patient, so I have learned a lot about the lymph system. I went back and read your previous question. Typically a lymph node that is malignant doesn't "move" around when you feel it. I've had several lymph nodes that were full of cancer and they were all hard and not mobile.

Lymph nodes swell when there is an infection in the body, even a minor one. Once the lymph nodes in my neck swelled after I got my ears pierced and one became infected. It can take weeks or even months for them to return to their normal size. So don't let it distress you too much. I would give it a couple of weeks and return to the doctor if it is still there. Applying a warm compress to the swollen lymph node can help take away discomfort.

I imagine he changed it to two weeks because you are having symptoms of an active infection somewhere in your body (temp and swollen node) and it's important to stay on top of that.

Good luck to you!

It sounds like an infected lymph node, which is nothing to be too alarmed about. An infection like that can hang around for a while without necessarily doing you any real harm. It is swollen because your body is fighting the infection. Normally he probably would have prescribed an antibiotic, but he may be concerned about giving you drugs if you are breastfeeding. Plan to back in two weeks, but if it gets worse, don't hesitate to go in sooner.

He shortened the time because of the temp you had experienced....it could be a low grade infection and if so he would need to decide treatment if any. Calm down! If he were in the least bit suspicious of something more dire he would have immediately scheduled you for a biopsy.

FYI - most doctors can palpate a swollen or lumpy area and get a good 'feel' for whether it is serious or questionable enought to take immediate action.

I would go to your OB GYN and see what he or she says. Although your Doctor knows alot of things.. they can be wrong too. Chances are it probably is a swollen lymph node.. but I wouldnt take any chances because it could be something else.
Worrying wont help :) Easier said then done.. I know :) Good Luck.

look, why are you wasting your time with a doctor who books you when he don't have time for you in the first place?
anyway, he told you 3 to 4 weeks because most lymph nodes are not swollen that long. then when you kept talking he told you 2 weeks so he could get rid of you.

You need a second opinion with stuff like that whether you love the doc or not. They are professionals but they are also still human and they do make mistakes. Please go to another doctor for a second opinion and maybe another one if you arent satisfied with the answer

Your doctor is giving you sound advice. Don't read anything into it like you are doing now. Believe me nothing will change in two weeks.
Good luck!

Don't worry, if he thought it was urgent he would have changed his answer to 'NOW'. Just relax, worrying isn't going to solve anything.
