the quickest way is to rev the engine to 2000rpm and put your foot on the brake, if the engine revs die then its a pd engine, if they don;t drop then its not.
this information is in the factory manual.

Open the bonnet, remove the plastic cover from the top of the engine, and have a look at the fuel system.
If there is a "distributor" pump at the front of the engine, with 4 metal high-pressure fuel lines leading to the injectors, its not a PD.
If there is only one line (plus a return) leading to all 4 injectors, its a PD.

it will have a red i on TDi as well as a 6 speed box

look in the boot, on the side of the spare wheel well you will see a white sticker, on this sticker is all the relevant information about you car, look for engine type code.

the engine cover has 2.0fsi on it and if you take the cover off there is no injector pump in front.
