So you expect the hostess to PREPARE meat - something she would be completly against - just to suit you??? Let me make this clear - a vegetarian CANNOT eat meat - however you can go a few hours without meat.
You are very self absorbed.

I dont think it is rude. The person who was having the house warming is a vegetarian for a reason, whether that be for health reasons or because they do not agree with the killing of animals, either way, to suggest that they have to accomodate you at their own house wouldnt be just. At a party you go with what is there, or next time there may be nothing!
I am sure the vegi person has been to several places with only meat and has survived, so you have to too

Can't you go a few hours without meat? Most vegetarians are completely repelled by meat and don't want to buy it or even touch it. They think it's *wrong* to eat meat, and don't want to support the industry. Try to be more understanding. Not wanting to compromise her convictions is no reason for demanding a gift back!
P.S. It can be hard to tell whether or not someone is serious or not in writing. Of course people can't tell. If you're kidding, add "j/k about the gift", or something like that.

wow what a rude bastard you are. Can't go 2-3 hours without a hot beef injection? Get over it. But put out anything you want for your housewarming - its your party.
There's a difference between the 2 sitiations you outlined. If you snack on vegetarian stuff for a few hours, you come out better off (at least your heart / body does), but most vegetarians would just refrain and go hungry through that time if faced with your all meat buffet.
Only take your housewarming gift back if it was a side of beef.

The difference is that if you in your house have only meat products available, the vegetarian has nothing at all to eat. Are you telling me that with vegetable dishes, there was nothing that you could eat yourself?
It's all a matter of providing something that the guests are able to eat. With a vegetarian party, everyone can eat.... people who don't eat pork, people who don't eat meat. I don't see a point for your acrimony.

My veggie friends don't mind preparing meat. One of my friends will sometimes ask if she should buy any 'dead body' for me (all in jest). Usually I say don't bother 'cause I like many veggie dishes too, but if she knows she's gonna have a lot of non-vegetarians over she'll usually have some meat snacks!

If she doesn't believe in eating animals then it isn't rude for her to not serve them in her home. This goes both ways. If you didn't believe in eating vegetables, then it wouldn't be rude for you not to serve them in your home when she is a guest. It is certainly acceptable to try to accommodate any guest to make them feel more comfortable, but you don't have to go against your personal beliefs to do this. As a guest it is also important to be gracious, and polite about what is being served. I think it is rude, as a guest and in poor taste, to want a gift back because you didn't like the food.

yes you are very rude for expecting something in return! for the house warming! most trays of snacks don't come with meat most are veggy trays!
are you taking the norm out of the norm just because they don't eat meat?
if you were going over there for a dinner party then yes they should have what your wantting! or at least a menue!
I know if i didn't eat meat for reasons of killing an animal then it would go agaist my moral of buying it! and why should one change there morals just for one person! well they shouldn't cuz the world don't revolve around for one person it's for all of us!
But I'm with you show me some red meat snacks other then beef jurky and hot dogs!
l;ol
try not to take it so personal!

No, I don't think it was rude.
It is different for them to come to your house and you treat them to some meat-free snacks, because they DONT EAT MEAT. They would have nothing to eat. You eat meat AND meatless things. Plus she would have to go out and specially buy the meat for the party and prepare it, which would probably be hard for her to do, depending on her reasonings for being a vegetarian.

You gave the gift because your like the person not because you expect something in return.
She made a personal choice that may not seem fair or logic but it is just something you actually can respect without wanting to judge her negatively.

Would you expect someone who keeps a Kosher home to defile it by making you a pork chop?
Or do you think you could go an hour or two without eating meat?
