I read on one of the excerts on this site that use of salon conditioners over a long period of time can actually be damaging on your hair and that Henna conditioners are the best. Is this true, and explain?

You are looking for henna wax it is a great conditioner though better suited to thicker coloured or permed hair, it can be a little heavy on fine hair.you can pick it up in many chemists, drug stores, and even discount stores and if you get the wax it does not change your hair colour. The best way to use it is to apply liberally leave in for about 20/30 minutes under a plastic cap or towel then rinse out thoroughly.
If you have fine hair I would recommend Matrix Amplify shampoo and conditioner excellent on fine, limp hair and will not weigh it down.

there are all sorts of colors but there is also one that is nuetral - no color. i have black hair and did not want any coloring added to my hair so that is the one i chose. it is getting harder and harder to find nuetral henna conditioner products but last time i tried i found a box of powder that i had to mix with water. it was ok but not what i used to find about 15 to 20 years ago. there are also some products that have henna mixed in with other botanicals. as far as it being heavy on fine hair, you may find that to be true but i would describe it more as just very conditioning. i have some natural curl to my hair and i loved the way my hair interacted with it.

I've gotten henna hair color from The Body Shop years ago.

It eventually washes out over time. You buy it according to your hair color. There are different colors if you are blonde, brunnette, etc.

I liked it. It was gentle on my hair too. And it lasted for quite a while. I think it's a good 'first-time' hair coloring.
