Swelling of the facial area can be caused by an allergic reaction, insect bite (like a bee sting, wasp sting or spider bite), blunt force trauma, or snake bite, among other things.
It's advisable to get to your dog emergency treatment. If it's an insect or snake bite, the venom can start traveling throughout the dog's body. (Don't wait "a day or two" -- if the venom is powerful or your dog had little tollerance to it, it can do a lot of damage in a short period of time.)
Before you go to the vet, put an ice pack on the swelling. You may be able to administer some benadryl, but only AFTER you've checked with your vet to get the proper dosage.
We had a dog that was bitten by a brown recluse spider and he had to stay in ICU for three days; the venom killed the skin around the bite mark, and then traveled down his neck to his chest and front legs. He lost all of the fur in those areas.
Swelling is not to be taken lightly.

Look for a bee sting or something. If you find it -- remove it immediately and see a Vet. You can put a baking soda paste (powder and a little water) on the spot until you get to the Dr.

My mother recently had this problem with her lab. She rushed him immediately to the vet and found out it was a severe ear infection that had spread. Please seek immediate medical attention for your dog. The vet told her that if she had waited another day, he wouldn't have been able to save Mac.

1st... call the Vet! They may tell you to give the dog benadryl first before bringing the dog in, then take it to the Vet.
And yes, you can administer benadryl to a dog.

Take her to the vet immediately. That happened to my dog once and she had been bit by a rattlesnake.
