How did you put Vista on? A download, a CD or what? Since Vista has not been released to the general public and won't be until around January 30, are running the Beta (test) version? If so, you may have to completely reload Windows XP, in which case you may lose many of your other files.

If you have the Vista install dvds, you can...
1. Insert install cds and run Vista installer program (Setup.exe)
2. Choose "Transfer files and settings from another computer"
3. Save the files you want to an external hd, extra hd, or dvd
4. Restart your computer
5. Choose "Windows Recovery Console" on the Choose operating system screen
6. Restore system to XP from the recovery console
7. Start up Windows XP and log in
8. Insert the Vista install dvds and run setup
9. Choose "Transfer files and settings from another computer"
10. Transfer migration files to your Windows XP (really says Windows Vista) from your hd device or dvd
Now you have Windows XP and all your files from Vista on your computer.

-- I did the same with my comp and re-installed Vista RC2 5744 as a second os by creating a new partition (in case you feel like going back to Vista and then have XP there also)

You'll have to do a fresh re-install of Windows XP. Then, don't ever install any operating system from Microsoft until at least the first service pack, or maybe even the second. Also, when you look at Microsoft's minimum hardware requirements, realize the minimum is just enough to make it run really slow and choppy.
And for those who think Windows Vista has not been released yet, the business versions have been released.
Good luck.
