I was on the LighterLife programme this summer and managed to lose 32 and a half pounds in 9 weeks. Any weight loss programme is difficult, LighterLife is just a bit more extreme than others. The counselling is a really big help and you'll actually find that it's good not having to think about going to the supermarket or about what you're going to have for dinner.

I would say that going on the LighterLife programme is one of the best decisions I've ever made and I would recommend anyone with a lot of weight to lose to go on it. However I would say that you have to be REALLY dedicated, you need to remember why you're doing it and the benefits you will get from it.

The first few days on the programme are supposed to be the most difficult but I actually found them quite easy. The water takes some getting used to though, especially if you're not someone who drinks a lot of water on its own but after a while, you get used to it and find it becomes routine.

The worst bit about the water is running to the loo every 15 minutes or so, it is disruptive but it does calm down. Pretty much the secret to having continuous, significant weightloss on the LL programme is drinking the water.

Towards the end of Foundation (the first 100 days) you may find you're getting a bit sick of some of the flavours but you need to remind yourself that you're not on LighterLife cos you want to eat the foodpacks, you're there to lose weight and you won't have to take them forever.

My situation changed towards the end of my Foundation so I was unable to finish what I had started but I am hoping to return to it. When I started eating again, I found I had to develop a taste for certain foods again, my stomach is much smaller so I eat a lot less than I would have before and my tolerance of alcohol has gone WAY down. But I don't think any of those are bad things.

I would definitely advise anyone give it a go, at first you might wonder what you've gotten yourself into but if you persevere, if you continue on your foodpacks, taking the water and if you attend and follow your counselling sessions, you will find you have made a good choice.

There has been some bad press about the programme but then everything new and different gets bad press at one time or another. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it!

A good friend of mine lost about 5 stones with lighter life. It was hard(its very strict) and she had to have a lot of self discipline but said it was worth it.
