Of course, humanity had to evolve intelligence. The environmental pressures in favor of intelligence are so large that such evolution took place quite rapidly, as such things go.

Except humans have the capacity to store data for 10,000 years, according to studies like that done by the U of Michigan and featured on the Discovery Channel program, "The Amazing Life of the Human Brain."
What environmental pressure would result in the need for this much capacity, or did man once live for 10,000 years.
As for intelligence preventing people from living primitively, our discoveries have resulted from the increasing numbers of our population as anything. You may think yourself as being highly intelligent, but I would bet you couldn't build a bread toaster from scratch, or a light bulb. If left in the desert, to survive on your own, I imagine you would be living very primitively. I imagine you would be hard pressed to create fire.

It's not about brains evolving, simply about gradual discoveries. The technology that exists now even compared to 100 years ago, or even 20 or 10 years ago is much more advanced. Does that mean we are now more intelligent? Of course not! One discovery leads to another that's all. Electricity was discovered before the light was invented, before computers, etc.

What you really need to ask is why has intelligence excelled in the past 500 years and why it practically stayed the same for the previous 5,500? End of times maybe?

It was a more primitive time. Humans were intelligent to begin with. Progress & advancement take time as well as trial & error. Your logic is flawed.

they didn't really live primitively. thats how things were and thats how things are in time period. like in feudal japan they were primitive but now their the most technologically advanced country in the world. evolution has nothing to do with it. over the years people find new techniques and learn from their mistakes. Things were done to get where we are. I suppose you could forget the things that happened in the 50's that evolved and made the U.S a high technological country now.

The people who lived in older times were not less intelligent, they simply had less learning. There were many intelligent thinkers and writers.
Learning, however, takes time - lots of it.

they weren't "primitive." they had difficult lives and lived in completely different situations that we do now. believe it or not, things like knowledge of electricity or ideas like equal rights for all don't just appear instantly like magic. they develop over time, with slow innovations leading to bigger ones. in the year 4007 people will look back at us and think we are primitive too, for not knowing what they know now. but how can we?
