Hi Jay....most shelters worldwide will perform spay/neuters for a low fee even for free to qualifying low income recipients. If you are located in the USA consider ringing 1-800 SPAY USA http://spayusa.org to locate a shelter nearby you.

Often your local shelters will put on a free or low cost spay/neuter day. You can call your local shelters and ask if they are going to do this soon, if not what would they charge?
Call up local vets for prices, they all differ on their fees.
Some humane societies will give you a voucher toward the fee which really helps.
This should help you get started.

6 months is the best time for male and female. Males should definitely wait until they are 6 months old so that their urethra has time to grow fully. If neutered too early it can lead to blockages and expensive treatment and prescription food. Technically they can be fixed earlier but especially for the males it is better to wait until 6 months.

There are animal hospitals that will do it, as well as vets and animal shelters. I would also call around to see who has the best prices.
