Why do dogs always put their paws up on you? My dog does this and he also puts his head on me too. Is he trying to dominate me or is it just to stretch?

If your dog is constantly trying to be at a higher level than you, wants to put her body on or above yours ,and demands your attention, then he is trying to dominate you. Dogs are smart, when mine feels dominant (which is all the time!), she will pretend to stretch and slowly sneak over and try to get on a higher plane.

There's a fine line between dominance and affection. If the dog is pawing at you all the time it is demanding that you pay attention to it. You need to nip that in the butt. It should be up to YOU when and for how long your dog will get attention from you. Not the dog. If you are the alpha, YOU make the decisions. Don't let the dog make them for you.

Monica, you had it right the first time yes hes trying to dominate you. All dogs will try there part of a pack and pack animals have a leader and there are followers. The best way to solve the problem is boundaries give the dog boundaries. No bed no couch. make the dog wait to be fed, and make him or her ask for the food after you put it in a dish.

My dogs put their paws on me when they want attention or when their stretching. My male Chihuahua, will take the side of his face {or his cheek}, and press it up against my face, like he's giving me a hug. He knows what I mean when I say give me a hug, because he does it. It's just too cute!

Dogs put their paws on you because it's a way of showing you submission....basically you are the boss. Another way is for them to get on their back when you come to them...that is submission also........as I understand this.
