it goes both way, toots.
theist posters here have questioned my morality, my right to citizenship, my right to vote, my intelligence, my right to parent, the quality of my parenting, my right to celebrate holidays which are a family tradition, etc.
I don't believe any of them were Scientologists, either. The only ones who identified their religion were Christians.
then you have such wonderful representatives as the hateful, unpatriotic Wretched* Fred Phelps and the hypocrite Ted Haggard, hardly good PR for your side.
*I use this as his title as he's profoundly unworthy of anyone's reverence.

It may come from the attitude of many Christians that ONLY they have the truth and that NO one else could possibly know anything. If you don't believe (and act) as they think you should, you will go to Hell. How many people of other religions do you know of that tell people that on a constant basis?
I haven't yet seen a Scientologist posting here condemning all who do not beleive in their religion. Or worse, stating rather smugly that we all WANT to be Christians, or really do believe in the Christian God and are afraid to admit it, or are afraid of God entirely, or any of the other utter nonsense posted.

Why is the main attack on Christians over other religions here? Because most of us at Yahoo! are westerners, type in English, and Christianity is the largest western religion. To sum up this answer: Christianity is convenient.

Because of the bad behavior of Christians here. Surely you've noticed that in a typical question, essentially all of the childish, ignorant, hateful negative comments come from Christians. If they're going to insist on misbehaving, they're going to have to accept the fallout.
If you really want people to stop thinking that Christianity is worthy of ridicule, get the inane creationists and the anti-atheist liars to shut up. As long as they keep up their misbehavior, Christianity IS worthy of ridicule.

I can form and voice an opinion on Christianity because I know quite a bit about it. I do not voice an opinion on Scientology because I have not studied it at all. Unlike some, I do not comment on stuff I know virtually nothing about.

Christianity actively promotes its flawed dogma so it has to be attacked. I have a deep loathing of Christianity that I don't have for any other religion.

Pardon me, but have you NEVER seen any of my answers in regards to Scientology? I suppose not. Here it is:
Scientology is a new "religion", the brainchild of science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. The organization claims to be able to help rid members of any and all mental constraints including but not limited to emotional scarring (from this and "past" lives) due to "engrams" (past negative experiences stored in our unconscious mind), psychological disorders and chemical imbalances (the solution is to convince members that these things don't actually exist) & drug dependence (including legally prescribed psychopharmaceuticals which counteract the effects of psychological disorders Scientologists believe to be nonexistent).
The official Scientology organization is composed of a number of “levels”. One begins as a “preclear” and works their way up. One must purchase virtually every service crucial to advancement directly from the "church" and at staggering prices. "Auditing", for example, is purchased in 12.5-hour blocks, costing anywhere from $750 for introductory sessions to between $8,000 & $9,000 for advanced sessions. Visit this link to see how $380,000 is a conservative estimate for the total cost of moving all the way up the Scientology hierarchal ladder: http://www.xenu.net/archive/prices.html These are the total costs for auditing alone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_as_a_business#Costs
At level OT III (Operating Thetan 3), some very strange and fiercely guarded secrets are imparted upon worthy members who have paid enough money to advance to such a level (and no, this isn't a joke): the evil alien ruler Xenu killed a lot of aliens (Thetans) from around the universe by kidnapping them, bringing them to earth in golden DC8 “space-planes” & blowing them up inside volcanoes with hydrogen bombs. Scientologists believe the souls of these aliens (these souls are "Body Thetans") were captured, brainwashed and released who then attached themselves to our ancestors (who passed them all the way down to us) & cause many of our mental & physical ills. http://sf.irk.ru/www/ot3/spaink-ot3.html http://xenu.net/archive/leaflet/Xenu-Letter.pdf
Scientology has taken a very hostile stance towards psychiatry & psychiatric drugs irrespective of the fact that some people require medication to remain adequately functional in everyday life. The “church” has been known to withhold prescription pharmaceuticals from member (with deadly results). Suspiciously, it was discovered upon Hubbard’s death that the anti-anxiety drug hydroxyzine (Vistaril®) was present in his body, which several of his assistants would later attest was only one of many psychiatric & pain medications Hubbard ingested over the years. http://www.clambake.org/archive/ronthenut/16.gif
(visit this link to read about the uses of hydroxyzine: http://www.drugs.com/mtm/v/vistaril.html )
To be blunt, Scientology is a cult. It employs semi-legitimate psychotherapy and self-help methods to keep people loyal, convinced of its merit while it simultaneously sucks them dry financially and attempts to keep them far away from ANYONE, even friends and family, who would dissuade them from remaining in such a harmful situation. It is a harmful, dangerous cult that takes its anti-psychiatry fanaticism to deadly limits. See this link for more information: http://www.lisamcpherson.org/
