This would've been a war! Ayala in his prime was a strong, aggressive bull and Duran was a fierce warrior and could bang with the best of them. Duran was a better technical fighter than Ayala though, and that may have been the difference in this fight. Duran could slip and roll his head with punches to lessen the impact and he also could put combinations together and use his jab when he had to like he did against Barkley. I see a spirited battle here with Ayala being the aggressor and Duran using more of his technical skills but also picking his spots to slug. Both fighters would land some mean shots but Ayala's lack of defense would hurt him in this fight as Duran outworks him and beats him to the punch in taking a close, but unanimous decision in a great fight. Great Question and Great Match up!

Looking over Duran's record through the 80's I would give a 15 round decision to Duran.

The Duran that destroyed Davey Moore wins easily and demolishes Tony El Torito Baby Bull Ayala. The Duran that loses to Kirkland Laing losses. Duran is overall superior however he was erratic at higher weights. He could also be unmotivated and uninterested. My bet would be with an up and comer like Tony Little Bull Duran would be at the top of his game and therefore win by knockout.

Ayala is the natural bigger fighter and punches harder I know what Tommy Hans did to Duran with one punch Ayala had that same type of power Duran had to much experience for Ayala he would take him out into the deep water and drown him Ayala would give Duran a chance to knock him out remember Davie Moore you can,t stand there and slug with Duran Marvin Haggler could not knock him out I see a late 14Th round KO for Duran it would be a fight to remember

I agree with Pancho, with the exception of the result. Duran too slick and underestimated defensive skills. The experience of Duran wins out. Duran KO/TKO round 8.

Common', Duran dominates this one, and Ayala would make it within sniffing distance of the 15th round.
