My pup used to finish his dry food in one sitting. Lately he stopped eating it when i put it down and takes him more than 6 hours to finish 1 meal... somtimes more. Sometimes he'll eat it if i mix it with a bit of warm water. I've tried the 30 minutes rule, where i take his food away after i've put it down for 30 minutes....after 2 meals he skipped he ate only half of his next meal and left the rest alone. He'll eat his food if its in my hand... or if its scattered on the floor...but hardly eats if its in his bowl. I dont feed him treats (maybe 1 a day).. and i just took him to the vet and he is healthy. I want to get him to start eating again... without making him a picky eater (by adding cheese or treates in his bowl).... any suggestions?

Our puppy was picky for a while, too. Have you washed his bowl after every feeding? Have you tried giving him his food in a different place?

Dogs won't starve themselves--have you tried holding out for a day or two until the dog realizes that he needs to eat?

The best you can do is to add a touch of peanut butter to his food. I know you want to avoid this stuff, but I do it on my dog when he won't eat, and he's not picky. Before you put it in his bowl, put it in front of his nose, to make sure he will accept it. If he goes for it, put it in his food, and mix it up so the peanut butter flavor will be on everything. He'll eat to get the taste, and soon he should just plain eat without it.

I had to put my puppies food on the floor a little at a time in order for him to eat it and i just leave it their, he eats when he is hungry. But if nothing works and he will not even eat people food do take him to the vet! Hope everything goes allright!

No cheese or treats added, not a good idea. Since he will eat out of your hand or off the floor, it sounds like he doesn't like his bowl. Try a different kind -- metal? Ceramic? Plastic? I had a dog one time that absolutely refused to eat out of a plastic bowl, don't think he liked the plastic smell.

My 9 month old just starting doing this too! I used to feed her 1 cup of food 2x's a day. Now I just give her 2 cups in the morning and whenever she finishes it, she does. No big deal.

Soak his food for about 10 minutes(dry food expands and will makehim very full if he gulps a few mouthfuls first)
make sure you aren't over feeding
And trust your vet I'm sure he is fine

I'd try mixing a little bit of wet food in with his regular food, he might dive right into that!
