When I am using DVD Shrink, what does it mean when it says cyclical redundancy and stops reading the DVD? How do I avoid this?

PS- I'm burning back-ups, so i don't need to be reminded that copying DVD's you don't own is illegal... thanks

Almost always that error message indicates a badly scratched area of the DVD. Here's a tip on how to repair that (it usually works except for all but the deepest gouges).
First, go to the store and get yourself a small container of a brass-cleaner called "Brasso".
Now wash the disc with warm water and regular dishwashing soap, using your fingers to work from the inside hole outward toward the rim...NOT in a circular motion. Now dry the disk thorougly with a paper towel, drying it in the same direction. Once the disc is thoroughly dry, get a soft cloth (an old clean tee-shirt is fine), apply Brasso lightly to the disc, and rub it as you did the soap and water...from the hole out to the rim. Wait just a bit, and then use a clean soft cloth again to polish up the disc, going from the hole to the rim. At that point, try the DVD again. Most of the time this works vry well. Good luck.
