on a standard IQ test the average is 100, genius level is 140 and above and the top of the scale is usually set at 200. The cut off line for mental retardation is 70. Anything below 70 is considered mentally retarded. Most people's IQ's are between 85 and 115, that is a 30 point spread. I hope that helps.

The highest IQ on record is (there is much confusion over its actual value, with different data and calculations yielding different numbers: 167+, 186, 218, 228, and 230.) by Marilyn vos Savant. Anything below 80 qualifies for special education services, usually developmental disability formerly called DH.
Incidentally, Jesus's IQ is estimated to have been around 172.

I am not sure about the highest IQ but I work for a mental retardation residential facility. Below 70 is considered to be mentally retarded with several ranges from mild, moderate, severe, and profound.

anything below 100 is considered lowish--I think something around 90 or 85 is retarded? The highest recorded IQ is that of Marilin von Savant.

100 is average, 90-110 is normal. Under 76 is mentally retarded. On the high end I don't think there is an upper end, but to put it in perspective Albert Einstein was 200.
